I wrote a guest essay for Variety explaining:
- why the DOJ - Live Nation antitrust lawsuit will do nothing to lower concert ticket prices for music fans.
- why the ire of many fans is misplaced.
- how the unregulated secondary market drives pricing in the primary market.
- how all this was foreseeable when the Live Nation - Ticketmaster merger was approved in 2010
- and that although Live Nation executes their business model very well -- much to the frustration of their competitors, this lawsuit will do nothing for consumers.
Fans love to hate Ticketmaster, but their anger is misplaced, argues Larry Miller, director of Music Business at NYU Steinhardt in this guest post.
