For this week's #ThoughtfulThursday series, we are highlighting @usaforunhcr's new partnership with @google entitled "Searching for Syria", a new powerful website that provides a compelling insight into the Syrian refugee crisis and what #Syria was like before the war.
The website combines data and stories from UNHCR and Google Search Trends to provide answers to the five most common questions that people around the world have been asking online about the Syrian refugee crisis:
What was Syria like before the war? What is happening in Syria? Who is a refugee? Where are Syrian refugees going? How can I help Syrian refugees?
The "Searching for Syria" platform "aims to dispel myths and misconceptions about Syria and refugees and provide an entirely fresh look at the biggest humanitarian tragedy of today" said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
The “Searching for Syria” website is available in English, French, German and Spanish with an Arabic version soon to follow. The website will be featured on the Google homepage (www.google.com) in selected countries or can be accessed directly at http://www.searchingforsyria.org.

April is #NationalPoetryMonth, the largest literary celebration in the world. It aims to highlight the extraordinary #legacy and ongoing achievements of poets and encourage support for poets and poetry. Today we remember the great Maya Angelou, where in this segment back in 2011, she said "If a human being dares to dream, dares to love somebody; if a human dares to be Martin King, Mahatma Gandhi, or Mother Teresa; if a human being dares to be bigger than the condition into which she or he was born- it means so can you." #FlyFriday
Today is #ThoughtfulThursday! Meet JustLeadershipUSA founder Glenn E. Martin former inmate and criminal justice reform advocate.
After being released from NY state prison, Martin began supporting and fighting for criminal justice reform, meeting with influential figures like Sandra Day O'Connor and former President Barack Obama.
In 2014, Martin founded Just Leadership USA (JLUSA), an organization dedicated to cutting the prison population in half by 2030 in the United States, by challenging the assumption that formerly incarcerated people lack the skills to weigh in on policy reform. Learn more about how Glenn Martin and his team are changing the conversation about prison reform in the US: https://www.justleadershipusa.org/ http://www.glennemartin.org/
