Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has said that she is stepping down from her role at the Republican National Committee (RNC) and would consider a possible Senate position in the incoming administration.

The former television producer said in a Dec. 8 social media post that she intends to formally step down as RNC co-chair at the committee’s next meeting.

“Serving as the GOP co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life,” she stated.

NEW YORK CITY—A Manhattan jury on Dec. 9 acquitted Daniel Penny of criminally negligent homicide over the death of Jordan Neely, a mentally ill homeless man whom Penny put in a chokehold and wrestled to the ground on a subway in May of last year.

On Friday, Judge Maxwell Wiley had agreed to dismiss the top charge of manslaughter in the second degree when the jury could not reach a unanimous decision after three days of deliberation.

As soon as the jury foreperson said “not guilty,” cheers and applause briefly rang out near the front of the courtroom before the court officers told everyone to quiet down under threat of removal.

President-elect Donald Trump sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria after Islamist opposition fighters captured Damascus. He called for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine.

“Assad is gone. He has fled his country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday morning. “His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place.”

The incoming president added that Moscow had “lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.”

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Dec. 8 that he will move to “very quickly” pardon those pursued by the Department of Justice in relation to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach.

“I’m going to be acting very quickly,” Trump said in an interview with “Meet the Press” anchor Kristen Welker, clarifying that he would begin the process of considering pardons for the nearly 1,500 people charged in connection with the event starting on his first day in office.

“These people have been there for how long? It’s three, four years. You know, by the way, they’ve been in there for years, and they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open,” Trump said, referencing the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Jail, a facility that has long been dubbed the “gulag” by its critics.

President-elect Donald Trump said in a new interview that he would work to end birthright citizenship and signaled that he could deport families with mixed immigration statuses.

Trump’s mass deportation proposal was a major component of his 2024 presidential campaign, and last month, the president-elect said he would declare a national emergency over the matter.

“I don’t want to be breaking up families, so the only way you don’t break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back,” Trump said in an interview with Kristen Welker on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired on Dec. 8.
