Atlantic City Fashion Week- This is one for the HISTORY BOOKS!!!

If you missed Atlantic City Fashion Week, you missed history in the making. The MET Gala ain’t got nothing on these independent designers.

What had happened was…………………

When the PowerCouple calls you, you answer the call and ALL of the designer UNDER STOOD THE ASSIGNMENT……………. Bring the BIG GUNS………….

They came from EVERYWHERE, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Italy, Dominican Republic, NYC, they had amazing Men’s wear, Cultural Indian wear, and every single designer was FABULOUS, it was a stream of creativity and glamour…………. I wish I knew all their names but to name a few, my good friends RICHARD Q and LISA ASTOR shut it DOWN (Darling) ………………. They were not playing, they were Slaying………….. there were so many great designers there that we could have done the show all day long…………….

The PowerCouple, LLamont & Jeanadid not hold back, they laid out the event space like SAKS 5TH AVE or Bergdorf Goodman, the designers had Luxury boutiques, equipped with 2 chairs, mannequins, and a table to place their garments, accessories, etc., on. The guest could SHOP THE DESIGNERS BRANDS right at the show.... this was amazing, I was in SHOCK from the FABULOUSITY, the runway was a wide and white, so when those big garments came down the runway, you saw the entire outfit, Jeana designed a hat segment on 3 mannequins, who knew she was so creative, (short people know how to work it), I LOVE IT, they kicked hiney with that space!!!!!!

It was such a warm welcoming vibe, all the designers helping each other, it takes a village and we all got the point………………

This is one for the HISTORY BOOKS………….. When you look back years from now and speak to your grand kids about what you used to do “Back In The Day” you will mention Atlantic City Fashion Week February 2025 ………… it was absolutely FABULOUS………

I want to also thank my team of videographers and photographers who captured exciting images for the Model World Magazine, I am very proud of them, keep up the good work

BE PROUD OF YOUR BRAIDS

Did you know that Cornrows/Braids were used to conceal messages, find family members, show escape routes and hide notes during slavery?

Cornrows/Braids are not just a hairstyle..... take a read....................

Cultural Significance
African Roots: Cornrows originated in Africa, where they were used as a form of expression, representing social status, age, and marital status. This practice was brought over by enslaved Africans.

Practical Uses
Protection: During slavery, cornrows served a practical purpose by protecting hair from damage and the harsh conditions of labor. The tight braiding helped keep hair neat and manageable.

Concealment of Items: Enslaved individuals sometimes used cornrows to hide small items, such as seeds or messages, as a way to resist and communicate covertly. Some slaves could not read but could use "cornrow" language to communicate with others. A good way to say where they were being taken or to tell where their family members were.

Resistance and Identity
Cultural Resistance: The continuation of traditional African hairstyles, including cornrows, was a form of resistance against the dehumanization of slavery. Maintaining these practices helped preserve cultural identity in the face of oppression.

Community and Solidarity: Braiding hair often served as a communal activity, fostering connections among enslaved individuals and creating a sense of solidarity.

Post-Slavery Legacy
Symbol of Heritage: After the abolition of slavery, cornrows remained a symbol of African heritage and resilience. They are celebrated in contemporary culture as a powerful expression of identity and pride.

Conclusion
Cornrows are more than just a hairstyle; they embody a deep history of cultural significance, resilience, and community among enslaved Africans and their descendants.

GRAND CELEBRATION FOR THE HOUSE OF SOFIA COUTURE SELLING IN MAISON PFW LUXURY BOUTIQUE WITH A PHOTO SHOOT & MINI FASHION SHOW
SATURDAY OCTOBER 26 – TIME: 1-5PM

Hello Fashion Folks; As most now know, I recently got my collection, The House of Sofia Couture, into the Fashion District Mall () at Maison PFW () Luxury Boutique. Well, Darlings, this calls for a celebration………….. You know that means a Photoshoot, SuperModels and a mini–Trunk Fashion Show.

Saturday October 26 from 1-5pm, The House of Sofia Couture will have a fabulous opening celebration with a mini trunk fashion show at the Maison PFW at the Fashion District Mall, 901 Market Street & 9th, Philadelphia, PA 19107 in the heart of downtown Philly.

I know for some New Yorkers it’s a distance, but it would mean so much to me if you could attend and share this moment with me. Lots of designers know what it takes to get to this point, you’re selling your garments in a Mall (or any store for that matter). It’s a big step and I would like to share this step with all my Fashion Family. I am so thankful every day to be able to continue this journey I started many, many (can’t tell you how many LOL) years ago and I’m still standing.

I want to say this with all humility and humbleness, I’m proud of myself for never giving up on myself, never quitting, never giving in to negativity, jealousy, false friends, backstabbers, I never reacted to that, I just turned my head and kept climbing.

What does it mean to be in a Luxury Boutique like Maison PFW…. It means “I HAVE TO WORK HARDER.” This is not the time to get relaxed and rest, it’s the time to “TURN UP” and build my brand like never before. It’s great to be in the Mall but I must SELL the brand. The Maison PFW is giving me the “PLATFORM,” I must do the SELLING. So, it’s not a time to think “I got it made because I’m in a Mall” because now the REAL WORK begins.

With all of this said, I hope you, my Fashion Family, understand why it’s so important to me for you to turn out in full force and effect on Saturday October 26 for the opening of The House of Sofia Couture. I know it’s going to be an inconvenience for some of you, taking the train or the bus, but it would mean so much to me just to see your face on that day.

Here is what I need to make this event fabulous – I need TFP Photographers, MUAs and Models who can come out that day. I need two assistants that would be happy to help for that day. I need Press/Media to swarm in and make this an event to remember (for those who remember the “Rocky” show), I need bloggers, vloggers, fashion journalists, etc., I will be available for interviews as well as the owners of Maison PFW, designers to come out and see what it’s all about, maybe you can have your garments in the boutique also. I really need full support of the Fashion Family on this day.

How to get there: By train, take Amtrak to 30th Street Station, go out the front door cross the street (steering left) and take the 44 buses to Market Street and 9th. The Mall is large so you can’t miss it, but just to give you a little help, the bus goes around a semi-circle, it’s about three stops from that. You will see a large CVS (right hand side of the street) and the next stop is 9th. Market Street is just like 125th Street, just look at the numbers of the street and you can’t miss. Once you go into the Mall, take the down escalator (by the Nike store) and you will see the Maison PFW.
By Bus: Take any bus from New York to Philly, and Uber. I would suggest Google to find bus drop off locations.

Just a little incentive, I will have a few free giveaways for anyone that purchases from The House of Sofia Couture on that day.
