30801 Ridgeview Ave, Mount Plymouth, FL 32776
$525,000, 4 beds, 3 baths, 2,245 sqft

Step back in time with this rare Sam Stoltz masterpiece, the "Plymouthonian," built in 1929 and rich with original charm. This iconic storybook home, nestled on 2 picturesque acres, is a unique creation by the renowned builder, celebrating Florida's vibrant history with whimsy and character. The property welcomes you with a long circular drive, a charming rock feature with a small waterfall, and a stream that once flowed under a footbridge to a small pond. Colorful stones pave the landing, leading to a pole barn and a detached workshop. Upon entering, you'll be captivated by the soaring Pecky Cypress ceilings painted by Stoltz, as well as the artfully placed stones like coquina and chert. Stoltz's signature bird decorations are found both inside and out, with a duck medallion over the fireplace, flamingos and pelicans in the bathrooms, and cardinals and egrets beneath the overhanging roof. The majestic chimney rises like one of the many palm trees on the property, complemented by painted plaster surfaces, coquina rocks, and irregularly placed windows with heart-cut wooden shutters. The main house offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath on the upper level. A separate 1-bedroom, 1-bath suite above the garage, once staff quarters, provides a private entrance. The home’s distinctive architecture features a striking 45-foot chimney, stone and wood floors, cypress beams, and intricate design details throughout. Inside, you'll discover artistic touches at every turn—from the rustic stone fireplace adorned with a round plaster relief of a bird to vibrant, textured walls, a hammered metal chandelier, and Mexican tile with gothic archways in the bathrooms. The Plymouthonian showcases half-timbering in the gable ends, pointed window heads, and rough stone trim, all reflecting Stoltz's artistic flair. His fascination with Florida's birds and fauna is evident in the sculpted plaster reliefs and stucco embellishments featuring herons and flamingos. The Orlando Sentinel has described this estate as a blend of "Tudor Revival" and "Fairyland" themes, this magnificent home is a true work of art, seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings. As Stoltz himself once said of his Plymouthonian homes: "We eliminated the usual harsh lines and produced a type of home in keeping with its surroundings, just as if it grew there—a part of the landscape." The property also includes a 40x20 workshop and a 30x24 pole barn. This one-of-a-kind home is conveniently located just a short distance from the new 429.

7989 Algonquin St, Mackinac Island, MI 49757 $4,750,000, 9 beds, 10 baths, 9,671 sqft

Somewhere in time as you sit on the sun porch of this magnificent home overlooking Lake Huron, you harken back to clippers, schooners, and steamships as they pass through the Straits of Mackinac. In the back stables, the carriages await. Meeting ships arriving at dock conjures images of exotic foods, gifts, visitors, and packages from afar. On this island without motor vehicles, not much has changed. Ships arrive. Carriages roll. Docks fill and empty. A unique place in these United States that endures to this day. Into the front parlor, bedecked with muraled walls and hand-crafted oak, the environs beckon you to sip tea or a dram of scotch by the warmth of the fire. A short jaunt past the media room, and the formal dining room opens for conversation accounting for the remains of the day. If too formal, a walk through the kitchen connects you with the breakfast nook and a bright morning sun. A fire crackles in the hearth warming the wainscoted walls. Up the back staircase to the many guestrooms and around the corner to the master suite. Bay windows overlooking the lake remind you to take a pause and warm an aged brandy in your snifter prior to retiring. With the infrastructure rebuilt and meticulously maintained for these many years, every room is a visual masterpiece.
