Rag & bone, Why Can’t We Get Along, Rig Film For their Spring/Summer ‘18 collection, Rag & bone partnered with SpecialGuest to create “Why Can’t We Get Along,” a short film starring Kate Mara and Ansel Elgort, co-directed by Benjamin Millepied, Aaron Duffy, and Bob Partington. Taking inspiration from the innovative work of Tony Hill, SpecialGuest developed a concept that invites viewers to experience a new way of seeing not just the clothes, but the world around them. With cinematography by Darius Khondji, the film features five sculptural camera rigs that capture content in unique and unexpected ways. Dancers from backgrounds as varied as ballet, parkour, and YouTube stardom move through the rigs and interact with them to showcase the different looks. Throughout the film, an original track by Thom Yorke poses the question, “Why Can’t We Get Along?” The rigs are an answer to this question. Different perspectives are disorienting, but if we could see the world from each other’s points of view, maybe we would get along.

At the beginning of 2010, Parisian Love played during the Super Bowl as Google’s first ever TV commercial. Since then, we have heard over and over again from Google folks that this video continues to act as a guiding document for the brand. Later that year it was inducted into the MoMA’s archive for the Art and Technique of the American Commercial and is considered to be one of the top Super Bowl commercials of the 21st century. More importantly, this video popularized interface storytelling, which became a major trend in marketing as well as a feature film medium for movies like “Searching”. The project has been written about in several marketing books and we still have people telling us their professors use it as a case study in their marketing classes. One of the lasting effects of Parisian Love is the abstract close up of the blinking cursor at the start. It became a hallmark of Google story telling and is still used today.

SpecialGuest is introducing a new social media series, “SpecialGuestbook”. In these dark times, we all can appreciate something that brings us joy. So we’ve decided to highlight different artist each week whose work is innovative and fresh

This week we will be highlighting Vfx artist (Rebecca More) More is a student at RMIT , Living in Melbourne Australia. She was inspired by our collaboration with the music group Writing On The Wall Music Video. who almost frame for frame remade our music video for OKGO in LEGOS. The attention to detail required to do this is quite mind-blowing, especially give that we were on set to build all this stuff in real life and the illusions are complicated. Rebecca replicated each illusion so that they actually work. Wow. Here's to the students, especially during Corona time, that are never the less clearly ready to take the creative industry by storm.
