One of my favorite Masterclasses to teach is the “outdoor walk and talk” on the streets of nyc. A lot of actors haven’t been on set in a while, and some have forgotten the feeling of actually “doing the work,” instead of standing in front of a gray backdrop and trying to “get the job.” We used the language of Aaron Sorkin, threw some marks on the ground, and shot “one-ers”, where the lines have to be perfect and we have to do the whole scene in one take (inspired by “The Studio.”) It’s fun, crazy, electric, fast, and a great reminder to keep your eyes on the prize, and to be ready when you book that job from tape and have allllllll this other stuff to think about when you actually film it.
