Nestled in the mesmerizing landscape of Giza, Egypt, the Pyramid of Khafre stands as a testament to ancient ingenuity and ambition. Erected around 2570 BC for the formidable Pharaoh Khafre of the illustrious 4th Dynasty, this majestic structure reaches today’s height of 136 meters (446 feet), a little diminished from its original 143 meters (471 feet). Yet, due to its advantageous positioning on elevated ground, the pyramid creates an enchanting optical illusion, making it seem more majestic than its larger counterpart, the Great Pyramid.

What sets the Pyramid of Khafre apart is the striking preservation of its original smooth limestone casing at the apex, providing an extraordinary glimpse into the grandeur that once defined these architectural wonders. Just beyond its base, the iconic Great Sphinx looms, thought to embody Pharaoh Khafre himself, vigilantly guarding the plateau and deepening the allure of this ancient marvel. The combination of the pyramid’s historical significance and the enigmatic presence of the Sphinx makes Giza an everlasting beacon of intrigue, inviting explorers to uncover the secrets of a bygone era.

The Mästermyr Chest.
The place known as Mästermyr on the Swedish island of Gotland used to be a lake. The lake was drained in the early 20th century and when a farmer named Hugo Kraft in 1936 was plowing up a section of the resulting mucky fields, his plow struck something solid. It turned out to be a tool chest. The chest was 90 cm (35 in) long, 26 cm (10 in) wide and 24 cm (9.4 in) high and it had a chain wrapped around it, locked with a padlock. The Swedish Historical Museum has dated the chest to "Viking period," 800-1100 AD.
The chest turned out to be full of tools. If the dating is right, this is the oldest major assemblage of European tools. It contained more than 200 objects, including axes, hammers, tongs, chisels, saw blades, hand drills, padlocks, chains -- tools for both woodworking and metalworking as well as odds and ends like nails and lock parts. And the most amazing part of the discovery is -- the tool designs show that modern hand tools haven't changed much in design since the early Roman age all the way to what we can buy today!
We can only suggest why this tool box ended up in the lake. Perhaps it was lost in a boat-wreck, or if it was intentionally hidden.
But it was a great loss to who ever lost it. Metal at that time came at a huge cost! A sword during that period would cost up to 4 years wages to the average man. When the armies were called together 2/3 of them turned up with little more than an axe or spear because men couldn't afford the steel for armor or helmets.

The Kavousi Olive Tree is the third oldest olive tree in the world, estimated to be around 3,370 years old, dating back to the post-Minoan period around 1350 BC. It is not only a natural monument but also holds the distinction of being the oldest example of grafting in the world, as it is grafted onto a wild olive tree.
The ancient olive tree covers an area of 112 square meters, stands about nine meters tall, and has a trunk circumference of 21 meters at its base, giving it a distinctive and aesthetically impressive appearance.
Historically, the Minoans, among the first Mediterranean peoples, were able to distinguish between wild and domesticated olive trees and the olive oils produced from them, a practice dating back 3,500 to 4,000 years.

Have you ever wondered why the Leaning Tower of Pisa is tilted?
Today, you’re going to learn the reason.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the bell tower of Pisa Cathedral, built in the Field of Miracles. A bit of history:
Construction began in 1173 AD with a 3-meter-deep slab, and on top of it, they started building the walls. When the building reached the third floor, it was noticed that it was starting to lean.
We’re talking about a 14,500-ton tower built on 3-meter-deep foundations resting on sand and silt soil. Imagine the geotechnical studies before construction at the time—just enough.
After detecting the slope, the engineers of the time built the walls of the remaining floors so that the floor height on the sinking side was greater than the height on the other side, thus compensating for the angle of inclination.
Smart move! But this actually caused the tower to lean even more due to the greater subsidence of the foundations on the already sinking side compared to the other side due to the added weight.
Construction lasted 199 years, and the various pauses during that time were one of the reasons that allowed the soil to compact.
The compacted clay soil was the reason the tower didn’t collapse and withstood four earthquakes without falling. However, if it stayed like that on this type of ground, this gem would eventually collapse. So it was time to “play” with modern engineering.
Modern engineers calculated the center of gravity of the tower, and the calculations concluded that the tower would collapse if it reached an inclination of more than 5.44 degrees.
The tower was closed in 1990 for repairs. They dug 361 holes, 40 meters deep, and injected 90 tons of concrete into the soil through these holes. (This is equivalent to 361 columns, 13 stories high, “driven” into the ground.)
In foundation terms, pilings were made under the slab. It’s like placing columns that pe*****te through the unstable soil layer and “anchor” into the deeper layer of soil to keep the slab equally stable.
Next, soil was removed from the less sunken side of the tower so that it would sink on that side and reduce its tilt to the original four degrees. Finally, steel fixings were used to secure the tower’s base to the stabilized ground.
They could have made the tower vertical, but they didn’t want it to lose its fame and tourist value due to its tilt. And after confirming it could withstand 300 years without tilting further, the tower was reopened to the public.

A stunning view of Victoria Falls. Locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the "Smoke that Thunders"), located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia along the Zambezi River.
Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone was the first European to document the falls in 1855. Captivated by their grandeur, he named them in honor of Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
With a height of approximately 108 meters (354 feet) and a width of 1,708 meters (5,604 feet), Victoria Falls forms the world’s largest curtain of falling water. During the wet season, more than 500 million liters of water cascade down the falls every minute, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle.
Recognized for its outstanding natural beauty and ecological importance, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989. It also holds a spot among the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Zambia, often referred to as the "Real Africa," is celebrated for its unspoiled natural beauty and authentic cultural experiences. The country’s official language is English, widely used in business and education. In addition, over 70 local languages are spoken, including Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, and Lozi.

White Pocket, a striking area within the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in Arizona. 🇺🇸
The formations are primarily composed of Navajo Sandstone, originating from ancient sand dunes that were petrified over many millennia.
Erosion by wind and water has since sculpted these rocks into bizarre and intricate shapes, creating a landscape with swirling patterns and unusual textures.
The resulting appearance is reminiscent of an extraterrestrial surface, contributing to White Pocket’s otherworldly and mesmerizing appeal.

When we think of shopping centers, the image that comes to mind is often of modern, luxurious complexes filled with countless stores and amenities. However, at the heart of ancient Rome lies Trajan’s Market, considered the world’s first shopping mall.

Trajan, who ruled as Roman Emperor from AD 98 to 117, aspired to leave behind a legacy unlike anything seen before. He envisioned a massive structure that could serve both as a social forum and as a marketplace where merchants and traders could offer their goods to the Roman people. In AD 113, Trajan’s Market was brought to life, thanks to the excellence of Roman architecture and the labor of many skilled workers.

Explore the stories behind its arches and corridors and immerse yourself in the vibrant life of ancient Rome.

The tallest man in recorded history is Robert Wadlow, at 8’ 11”. He weighed 480 pounds and wore a size 36 shoe.
He had the appropriate job of advertising for a shoe company.
He is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. He was measured three weeks before he died and was almost nine feet tall. He was born February 22, 1918 in Alton, Illinois weighing a near normal 8.7 pounds. His greatest weight was 491 pounds. His hands were about thirteen inches from the wrist to top of the middle finger and his shoes were size 37AA, that's more than eighteen inches long. Before International Shoe Company provided free shoes, they cost $100.00 a pair (in today's money that's six to seven hundred dollars). Wadlow was still growing when he died.
During a trip he and his father were visiting 800 towns in 41 states for the shoe company. His dad removed the front passenger seat so Robert could sit in the back seat and stretch out his long legs.
In kindergarten he was 5'6'' tall, wearing clothing that would fit a 17-year-old boy. In 1929 he had his first medical checkup where the family was told that the boy had an over active pituitary gland. Too late for Robert, medical science today can compensate for the problem. In 1931 he was the largest Boy Scout in the world at 7'4" weighing 270 pounds. The "Gentle Giant" died July 15, 1940.

Colonna Gallery Museum and Art Gallery.
Palazzo Colonna is one of the largest and oldest private palaces in Rome. Its construction began in the 14th century and responded to a specific wish of the Colonna family who had already resided there for eight centuries.
During the 17th century, the Palace was transformed into a large Baroque aristocratic residence.
It is from this period that the construction of the Colonna Gallery dates; it measures 76 meters long and represents a jewel of Roman Baroque, unique of its kind. There we discover absolute masterpieces created by the greatest Italian and foreign artists, between the 15th and 16th centuries.

My grandsons won this fish at the local carnival 8 years ago. Until recently, he was in a 20-gallon tank, which was obviously way too small for him as he’s easily the size of your average banana. He’s now been moved to a 60-gallon tank and seems very happy. No, he doesn’t have much decor because he eats everything. Live plants and very large snails have been his victims over the years.
When the fish-procuring grandsons come over they usually don’t acknowledge the fish’s existence, but occasionally they will say, “That fish is still alive?” 🤦‍♀️
I had a friend over recently and she asked what the fish’s name is. Oddly, I had never even thought of naming the gargantuan beasty, even though my dog has a name and about 17 nicknames. 🤷‍♀️
I figured you clever bunch would be a good source of amusing fish names.
Well, hell. After typing all this I’m thinking “Banana” would be a good name. Never mind. 🍌

This is Jesse, he is a drifter who lives near the bridge in my area. He owns nothin but a bike, a bird and a bag of about 10 items!
Yesterday, while I was riding my bike down around the beach – which is about 5km from my house – I got a flat tyre. I had no choice but to turn around and wheel my bike the long walk home.
A few people rode past and didn’t really pay me any attention and I didn’t expect them too, but as I started walking, headphones in my ears, I noticed the homeless guy from under the bridge saying something to me. At first I thought he was going to ask me for something so I popped my headphones out and asked him what he wanted? He then replied “I don’t want anything bra but I’ve got a new tube in my bag and you can have it if ya want!” Shocked at first I said no thanks but he insisted. So I walked over to his little clearing where he had his things and his pet bird sat in a busted cage.
He opened up his empty bag and gave me the tube (which was one of the very few things he had) helped me change the tyre, even pumped it up! I asked him how I could pay him back and he said to me “don’t worry about it bra, this is what it’s all about!”
The enormity of his situation and the fact that he went out of his way to help me was so humbling, I mean this guy was willing to give me his stuff and didn’t want anything in return. To you and I, a bike tube would probably not mean much but to a guy with so little this item must hold enormous value!
I could go on and on about how selfless this guy was to give me, a total stranger, clearly in a much better position than him some of his possessions, while people like us are so selfishly attached to all our useless crap.
Anyway I just wanted to show you a pic of Jesse with his new Versace lenses, some fresh Sneakers, a full belly and a cold beer… Felt good to do something for the bloke. I also went up to woollies and got him a couple weeks worth of food and some seed for his bird lol…
Man he was ecstatic even had tears in his eyes and couldn’t thank me enough, but amidst me sitting there proud of my good deed, and him singing me praises, I suddenly felt pretty bad because the truth is if he didn’t go out of his way to help me, I wouldn’t of done anything for him.
I ride past this guy all the time and never even think twice!
Really knocked me off my high horse!
Even tho we sit around with all our materialistic needs and pass judgment, this dude has something that none of us can buy!
I guess what I’m trying to say is thanks for the lesson in humanity champ!

Did you know that the Coronado Bridge, located in San Diego, California, is an iconic concrete arch bridge that connects the city of San Diego with Coronado Island? Opened in 1969, it spans 3.4 km (2.1 miles) and rises 61 meters (200 feet) above San Diego Bay at its highest point, allowing large vessels to pass underneath.
Its curved, arched design was intended to extend the length of the bridge and avoid a steep incline, making it easier for vehicles to cross. This bridge is an important architectural symbol for the region and offers spectacular panoramic views of the bay, downtown San Diego, and the Pacific Ocean.
