Urgent Media Attention Needed for Student Protests in Bangladesh

On behalf of Bangladeshi students, I am writing to urgently request your attention to the critical situation unfolding in Bangladesh. The government’s violent crackdown on students protesting the unfair job quota policies has led to nearly 50 deaths in one single day (18 July 2024). The movement is gaining momentum on social media. But now we can not even reach to our family and friends in Bangladesh! All the internet connection are off in the whole country. Phone lines are down as well.

Students are being brutally attacked by police under government orders, and the media is being muzzled to prevent the truth from reaching the public. We need international support to bring attention to this issue and to stand with us in our fight for justice and an end to this brutality. We are gravely anxious for the safety of our family and country.

International coverage and support could make a significant difference in raising awareness and applying pressure on the authorities to address these human rights
