To all of Dull Men's Club, I find myself in quite the pickle. My once pristine lawn, greener than a freshly ironed dollar bill, has transformed into a canine-crafted masterpiece resembling a deranged golf course. My four-legged friend's liquid contributions have created a tapestry of yellow polka dots and mysterious craters. How does one maintain one's reputation as the neighbourhoods most boring lawn enthusiast when one's grass looks like it's auditioning for a role in a post-apocalyptic mini-golf course? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, preferably before my neighbours mistake my garden for an avant-garde art installation.

So, this morning it was finaly time this rather dull wall that serves no purpose at all was removed. I've disliked this wall ever since moving to this beach house about a year ago. So today was independence day. The wall is now nothing more than a pile of 20 year old mortor & broken bricks.

First time Dull poster.

This has had me questioning people’s motives for a long long time. Happened in 2019. I worked at an apartment complex as a maintenance technician and twice a week we roll out the dumpsters for the garbage trucks to empty.

This week in particular was very interesting. I stumbled upon 3 different dumpers full of bags from (home goods/TJmaxx/marshalls). All had fully new dishware, plates, bowls, vases, holiday plates, mugs, baking dishes, etc). All were wrapped in paper for protection from damage and every single bag had a sales receipt inside. The receipts locations varied but were all purchased within the last month (that this happened).

Instead of dragging these out to the dump, I removed every single bag and took them home to donate to friends and family. From my recollection there as at least a minimum of $3500 of goods in those bags. (Possibly much more).

Now my question is this. WHY would someone do this kind of thing?

33/M/11 size shoes and dumper for scale.

***UPDATE : this morning he woke up at the end of the bed holding the doona in his arms looking for a way out. He had tunnelled under the covers and out the end 🤣.***
My partner sleep walks and talks all the time. Memorable ones are:
1. He was walking around carfully carrying a pillow in the bedroom and when I asked what he was doing said “I’m just moving this dead body over here” and walked out of the room with it 😳
2. Sitting up in bed steering an imaginary car and told me to “watch out, the wheel has fallen off” before swerving off the bed.
3. Sitting up in bed and I asked him what he was doing and he replied “what are you doing in my box, this is mine, get your own.
He regularly sleep walks around the bedroom trying to get in and out of imaginary tunnels and bushes, telling me to follow him, or “ this is the way out”.
It makes my dull sleeping much less dull!

My folks pool got taken out by a storm a few months back, so I set their new pool up yesterday. The foam under the pool is brilliant. I obviously have to trim foam and landscape the area around the pool, but it is night and day. I will be putting foam board down under mine next season for mine is already up. Pro Tip: Ignore what the box says. 😏

Heartbreaking just found one of our blackbirds dead. No marks, eye wide open looked like she was just sitting there. She's well fed we look after them. Anyone got any ideas wondering if its poison. I did find 2 slugs dead in my greenhouse and on the path not curled up or anything just died in their tracks. I never use anything that would cause harm to the garden let alone a bird.

I pick up window units in the street all the time. With Chinese air conditioners it’s one of three things. If nothing happens it’s the GFCI plug which is cheap to replace. If the compressor/fan strains it’s usually the capacitor which can be had on Amazon for under 10. If nothing else makes it go I take the electronic board out so that the compressor and fan are wired directly to the power cord. I’m in New Orleans so a thermostat isn’t needed I put a sign on it “When hot plug in when cold unplug “. If the fan is noisy you can buy bearings for under 5.00 but that’s a little more involved. These come in handy because my generator isn’t big enough to run my central A/C but my generator will run a refrigerator and 2 window units.
I live in an area that has a lot of poor people, sometimes I’ll see a posting in one of my neighborhood groups along these lines “ help my A/C went out and the landlord won’t fix it. Does anyone have a window unit for 20-50 that they could sell me it’s 98 degrees in my apartment “ I’m not going to take someone’s last 50 so I’ll deliver it to them and install it with foam board scraps I picked up on construction sites.
As I’m leaving I ask that when they get there A/C up and running and are back in the “chips” that they donate my unit to someone that’s in a pinch like they were.

NASA has classified Sansevieria, now called Dracaena, as an air purifier due to its ability to remove toxic compounds such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.
This plant uses the acid metabolism of the Crassulaceae to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, enabling it to resist drought.
The microscopic pores on its leaves, called stomata, open only at night to limit water loss through transpiration in the heat of the sun. Unlike other plants, Sansevieria produces oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide at night, making it an excellent indoor air purifier while we sleep.

I came across this article in the National Geographic. I think many gardeners wonder about these bugs in their garden ...
This is called the Oniscidae. You may find them under a brick or a damp object. You may have felt disgusted and wondered why they exist in nature.
Well, let me tell you, the oniscdae, better known as cochineal, is a subgroup of isopod crustaceans whose function is to remove harmful heavy metals from the earth such as mercury, cadmium and lead. They contribute to the cleansing of soil and groundwter to reaffirm the wisdom of nature. Do not damage them or spray pesticides!

Sorry for another post, I was thinking this morning about someone who criticised my garden last year when I was out weeding and getting ready for more plants... they said, "you'll hate all the weeding and it will take up so much time". I explained how the ground cover will take care of most of that and that I actually love gardening...
Ill be honest, the negativity hurt my feelings, but when I look out on this beautiful morning, I think, its a shame when people have no vision.
Sitting out with my lovely husband having breakfast or a coffee is what its all about.
My garden may not be everyone's cup of tea, but to me it is paradise. 💚

Everlasting Allium made with chicken wire, rebar and spraypaint.
Just cut a piece, and roll it like a snowball. Big, small, tight, loose, everything works. Just be careful and use gloves!

Not exactly gardening related, but I could really use some help identifying these. We are finding them in our house daily. We thought they were yellow jackets; however, after taking pics there is clearly some fuzz on their head. We found a nest outside in the siding, my fiance unloaded 2 cans of wasp killer and these things continue to visit daily.

THANK YOU everyone for your prayers, well wishes and concerns about me and my plants during Hurricane Ian. In my haste yesterday when I posted a few pictures I forgot to mention I took those pictures on Sunday BEFORE I put every potted plant (and “Nick“ my garden gnome) inside the covered part of the lanai behind the roll down shutters made with a teflon product safe for wind speeds up to 200 mph. Ian is now a Cat 4 at 140 mph so they should be safe. I moved the front door plants into our garage. You are a fantastic, wonderful group of people and I appreciate you dearly. My husband and I are in our comfy, cozy humble abode surrounded by my house plants and neighbors on both sides. We have plenty of food and water. Ian is not our first hurricane. We lived in this same house during Irma in 2017, but Ian is already much worse. Thank you for your prayers. Please keep them coming. And now we wait.
