So, my 7-year-old son, Eli, started coming home excited about cooking lessons with our reclusive neighbor, Ms. Eleanor. She'd always kept to herself, so I thought maybe she just liked having the company. At first, it seemed innocent enough. But then he started going over daily.

MY MIL BROUGHT A "SPECIAL GIFT" IN A HEARSE TO OUR WEDDING CEREMONY
I was standing hand in hand with my fiancé, Ben, exchanging our wedding vows when suddenly, we heard a loud honk, cutting through the silence. Heads turned, whispers echoed, and then, we saw it.
Rolling up the gravel path, loud and unmistakable, was a massive black hearse, with NONE OTHER THAN MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, Linda, behind the wheel. She looked more like she was on her way to a funeral than her only son's wedding.
The hearse finally stopped. The doors creaked open, and Linda stepped out. She glanced at me, then at Ben, and let out a long, exaggerated sigh.
"I just want you to know," she announced loudly, "that this IS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE." She dabbed her eyes with a lace handkerchief as if this was some kind of tragic event.
Linda turned to the crowd and dramatically raised her hands. "But I did bring a "GIFT" for the occasion. It's in the back of the hearse. Come here! YOU'LL WANT TO SEE IT." As she opened the back of the hearse, guests couldn't withhold their gasps. ⬇️

"I'm grateful for moving me to a nursing home and helping me, Steph," I said to her. "However, I need one more favor from you."
"Sure, ma'am," Stephanie replied. "What is it?"
"Can I at least see George one last time? " I felt like my eyes welled up with tears.
"I'm sorry, ma'am," Stephanie apologized. "His body was in a terrible state when our hospital received it after the fire. I wish for you not to see it."
I had to deal with it. So, I organized the funeral the next week: Stephanie was by my side the entire time.
Years passed. One day, I came out of my room to watch TV with the rest of the residents. But as I examined the screen more closely, my eyes welled up.

At 45, I lost everything. My marriage was falling apart, and every bit of strength I had left was spent crying on the bathroom floor. All my dreams, all my plans, crumbled to dust. A strange urge grew inside me—a desire to run away and to disappear. I deserved better, and I knew I had to prove my worth to my husband. I got home around 3 a.m. after my night shift, and all I wanted was to crawl into bed and snuggle up next to my husband.
So, I slipped inside, peeled off my clothes, and made my way to the bedroom. In the dark, I climbed into bed and cuddled up against what I thought was my husband’s back.
Then my phone buzzed. Barely opening my eyes, I checked the message: “Hey babe, I’m just leaving the bar with some friends. Be home in 5 minutes! Hope you’re still awake!”
I jumped out of bed and nudged the man lying there, who turned over, wide-eyed… it was a total stranger!
