My 79-year-old mom's wedding was already something of an oddity to me. Not that I didn't love her, but I couldn't understand how she could embark on such an adventure at her age. But the strangest thing happened on the day of the wedding.

When the moment came to throw the bouquet, my mom announced that whoever caught it would receive a ring from her as a gift — but with one condition: this person had to go on a date with someone my mom chose. I just smirked at the absurdity and stepped away from the women eagerly trying to catch the bouquet.

But then I noticed something strange. My mom glanced over her shoulder, looked right at me, and threw the bouquet straight in my direction. Instinctively, I put my hands out in surprise and caught it.

My mom was over the moon. Now, all that was left was for her to name who my date would be. She turned toward the guests and said, "Nick, dear, come on up!"
