"Love, is that a new ring on your finger?" Elizabeth asked.
"Oh, yeah, this little old thing," Simon said nonchalantly.
"It's nice. You've never been one for jewelry, though. When did you get it?" Elizabeth inquired.
"About a week ago. I saw it at the jewelry store in town and thought I'd treat myself," Simon responded.
People's tastes and habits change, Elizabeth thought. She quickly forgot about it.
A year later, Simon passed away suddenly from a heart attack. As Elizabeth was crying by Simon's coffin, their maid Rose joined her, holding her in an attempt to console her. As they embraced in an emotional hug, Elizabeth noticed that Rose was wearing the same ring Simon had been wearing back then.

Simon, 11, and his younger brother Charlie, 9, were playing one of their usual weekend games of hide and seek.

Downstairs, Simon called out, "Ready or not, here I come!" He sprinted upstairs, starting his search by checking under Charlie's bed, only to find it empty.

Simon scratched his head, wondering where his brother was hiding this time. As he turned to leave, something caught his eye: papers scattered across the floor of their parents' bedroom, which seemed odd.

His curiosity piqued, Simon entered the room and scanned the area. That's when he noticed a pair of small shoes poking out from behind their dad's work table.

"Found you!" Simon exclaimed with a triumphant grin.

Charlie crawled out from behind the table, laughing in defeat. "Okay, okay, you got me!" he said, wiping dust from his clothes.

But just as they were about to leave the room, Charlie's attention shifted to the papers on the floor. One word, in particular, stood out to him.

"Simon, what’s a divorce?" Charlie asked, holding up one of the documents.

And just like that, by chance, the boys learned the frightening truth about their family's situation. Despite their young age, they quickly came up with a plan to prevent their parents from divorcing.

MY HUSBAND SPED OFF TO THE LOCAL DUMP AFTER I TOLD HIM I TOSSED HIS OLD JACKET FROM THE ATTIC — I WENT PALE WHEN I DISCOVERED THE REASON
Dinner at home went like this:
Me: I cleared out the attic today. Got rid of a bunch of old stuff.
My husband freezes and drops his fork.
