ABFE Member Memphis Music Initiative ( ) has launched a bold and visionary campaign: 25x25: Creating Change for the Culture. With a goal to raise $25 million by the end of 2025, this campaign is designed to support and sustain 17 Black- and Brown-led, youth-serving arts organizations—providing $1 million each to enable programming at scale, strengthen financial resilience, and fuel long-term institution building.

MMI is asking an urgent and necessary question: What would it look like if Black creative youth development organizations received transformational funding—without the gatekeeping, barriers, and burdens that have historically excluded them?

This new funding model reduces administrative burdens, builds shared infrastructure, and gives organizations the flexibility to grow, innovate, and lead without fear of failure.

This is not just about raising money—it’s about rewriting the rules of philanthropy and shifting power. ABFE encourages our network to stand behind MMI’s leadership and help reshape the philanthropic landscape in service of racial equity and artistic freedom.

In May, ABFE’s Leverage the Trust – California Network gathered Black trustees, CEOs, and philanthropic leaders from across the state for our annual Leverage the Trust – California Leadership Retreat in Manhattan Beach. Over three powerful days, we mapped strategies to organize and mobilize resources for Black communities, identified shared priorities for systems change, and deepened our collective vision for accountable and liberatory philanthropic leadership. This powerful convening deepened relationships, aligned strategies, and reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing racial equity through collective leadership.

ABFE’s Leverage the Trust Network is dedicated to connecting and empowering Black foundation trustees relationships, creating learning opportunities, strategizing together, and taking collective action on issues impacting the Black community. Through knowledge sharing and collective action, this network positions Black trustees as champions of racial equity—within their institutions and across the sector.
