The theme, "Reflect. Empower. Unite," reminds us that Pride started as a fight for equality and respect. While the LGBTQ community knows how to celebrate, take a moment today to reflect on those who came before us and ask yourself how you can use the momentum from today to empower and unite as we head into one of the most contentious political elections in the history of the United States. Let's rally together to continue this fight for what we deserve.

Please take a moment to reflect on the importance of today, known as Stonewall Day. 55 years ago, patrons of The Stonewall Inn located in Greenwich Village, New York, were victims of a police raid that led to a multi-day riot and demonstration by a brave group of LGBTQ people who stood up to fight for our rights. To honor the importance of this day and those who fueled what we know today as the Gay Liberation Movement, the Christopher Street subway station is being renamed the Christopher Street - Stonewall National Monument station. https://www.nps.gov/ston/index.htm

Remembering and honoring the 49 people we lost on June 12, 2016, from a mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. One of the deadliest terrorist attacks in US history. The attacks on our community continue with the ACLU currently tracking 516 anti-LGBTQ pieces of legislation. And, this past May, the U.S. Department of State issued a worldwide alert for potential terrorist attacks against LGBTQI+ people and events throughout the month of June. +
