It will take time to metabolize the richness of my nearly 6-month journey away from home. What I know for sure is that the single most important part of my story lies in the actual decision to go – to listen to the nudge to allow myself to wander without a predetermined scope or objective.
"Not all those who wander are lost."
The idea of being immersed in a project that is big - one of those legacy-making endeavors- is something which has always intrigued me. I envy people who operate with a mission, who are taking their moonshot.
But the more I think about it, moonshots come in many forms. For many people, it's all about getting through the day, one foot in front of the other.
This episode is about moonshots. What form does your moonsh*t take these days?
Ripples effects. Big and small. They all count. We are the pebbles that create the ripple effect.
A smile, a word of encouragement, taking time to listen, sharing our stories - whatever it may be - we simply never know the influence or impact we may have on others.
At the end of the day, we all create ripple effect and the hardest thing is to be a humble pebble.

Billy Joel wrote his first song in 20 years, and vulnerable, poignant words in the New York Times this week stunned me. “I have this fear of writing something that’s not good (…) I have a very high bar for myself and the work to get there is intimidating.”
I thought to myself, if Billy f**king JOEL is this guarded – in his own words fearful –just imagine the quantum volume of creativity is being withheld from us. Music, literature, art, workshops, speeches, editorials. Think about it. It’s endless.
A great quote I recently captured for my #notestoself journal feels important to share today. “Imposter syndrome is an ego-centric state.” If it’s fair to assume that a world treasure the likes of Billy Joel doesn’t suffer from imposter syndrome, then what is it anyway? Think about it.
I’ll leave it to others to draw their own conclusions. As for myself, I took Rick Rubin’s wisdom to heart. “The art you create is always ultimately for you. Make something you love.” On January 2, 2023, I got past my own ego-centric imposter syndrome and heeded an intuitive hit aka recurring thought.
With just enough courage and curiosity to get to the start line on a project which proved to be my unique version of creative self-expression. My art is vulnerable because I have unleashed the voice of my heart, long buried beneath layers of fear and self-doubt. I called it Dear Constance. It’s a short-form podcast released every Monday-Wednesday-Friday morning wherever you get do your listening.
Here’s the thing. Creating something meaningful to me which I love making is apparently meaningful to other people, too. Today I am celebrating the milestone of 30,000 downloads. But most importantly, I am celebrating getting out of my head and into my heart.
From my heart to yours is how I sign off on Dear Constance. I mean it when I say those words. I’d be most honored if you’d give a listen to today’s 6-min episode called ‘Showing Up To Start’.

226. The Plague of Should (STORY)
Dear Constance, Episode 126 The Plague Of Should
Episode Link: https://bit.ly/3rKUR60
Here in spectacular (and spectacularly large) Mexico City for first time, I was initially overwhelmed by all there is to see and do. My carefully curated list was long.
On the morning of Day 3 of my visit, I decided to shed said list of must see, must do, musn’t miss – what I call ‘the plague of the shoulds’. I shifted my focus and started asking myself what is truly calling my attention? What do I feel like doing? Where do I want to explore and perhaps get lost?
So yeah, I think this is sort of a great metaphor for life in general. How much of what we're doing in our life is because we think we should? Perhaps other people's shoulds. I think we have to go back over and over again through life and say, is this what I want? Is this what I feel like doing? Is this what's calling me right now?
The net net here is that it's never too late to set yourself free from the weight and the burden of the plague of the shoulds.

Dear Constance, EP 109 Intention Is Living In Harmonic Agreement With Oneself
In this episode, we’re talking intention and I reference Rick Rubin on intention from his book ‘The Creative Act’. He. is speaking about creativity and artistry, and I like what he said about intention. It is a state of living in harmonic agreement with oneself.
“Intention is more than a conscious purpose. It's the congruence of that purpose. It requires an alignment of all aspect of one's self. Of conscious thought and one’s beliefs. Of capabilities and commitment. Of actions when working and not. It's a state of living in harmonic agreement with oneself.”
I like that

Dear Constance, Episode 108: What You Don’t Change You Choose
At work some years ago, a colleague stopped me in my tracks. She said “Constance, you either need to stop it or get yourself into therapy.” Stop what, you wonder? Yep, stop complaining.
She was right, of course. I was done. It was time to pack up my desk and move on. By not making a choice to leave – and to change what was making me miserable - I was choosing to be there. Bless her heart, she reminded me I had a choice to make.
The first step in choosing to make a change is to shift the focus from what isn’t good and right to thinking about what we want and how we’re going to get there. Posing questions triggers the subconscious to start looking for answers. It really is as simple as that.

Every so often I come across something I “steal like an artist”, in the words of the funny, talented, quirky Austin Kleon. In short, a quick and easy ‘hell yes’. This is exactly what happened when I heard some bro on Instagram loudly declaring “these three things will change your life.” I listened to it multiple times before recording it to make it my own. Turns out that ‘bro’ was none other than THE @Jesseitzler, a serial entrepreneur and the co-founder of Marquis Jet, an owner of NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and so much more. He also just so happens to be the husband of @sarablakely, the legendary Founder of @spanx. I had no clue who he was at the time, and it’s no wonder his words made me stand at attention.
Austin Kleon is a New York Times bestselling author of several books including Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work!, Keep Going; Newspaper Blackout. His works focus on creativity in today's world. He has spoken at organizations such as Pixar, Google and TEDx, and at conferences such as The Economist's Human Potential Summit and SXSW

We usually think of a reckoning as something that happens when there’s a major life event, or when we’re at a crossroads. We know the moment has come to dig deep to get back in the driver’s seat and redirect our lives. I am amid one of those reckonings. In this episode of Dear Constance, I share how I got started on my own internal excavation.

Airplane mode is most commonly thought of as keeping other people away. It can also be framed as being intentional about finding your way back to yourself. Yes, it can be disconcerting and uncomfortable. Yes, it can be embarrassing to realize how often you look at messages and social media. And yes it can be an amazing way to reset your default modes across many aspects of your actions and thoughts. You get to become the observer, and to make new and better choices about how you direct your time and energy.

Dear Constance, Episode 99 - Inner Symmetry
I think this feeling of summer ending and going back to real life and starting again is something that we're all facing.
This comes from the great poet philosopher David Whyte, from his poem called ‘Coleman's Bed’. It says this.
“𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘴𝘺𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴. 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧. 𝘉𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺. 𝘉𝘦 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.”
All this reminded me that I don't want to grasp. . I want to look forward to going back, and to think about what I get to do next. Who do I get to become next? The one thing I know for sure is this. I feel so lucky to be alive.
