E ADOPTED A SILENT BOY — HIS FIRST WORDS A YEAR LATER SHATTERED EVERYTHING: "THEY LIED TO YOU."

Bobby had been found as a baby near a foster home with a note claiming, "His parents are dead, and I'm not ready to care for the boy." That was all anyone knew. Bobby didn't speak to us at all. The foster care workers assured us he wasn't mute, just withdrawn. "He talked to us," one of them said. "Give him time."

But after years of struggling with infertility, we saw him and knew — he was OUR SON.

So, we poured every ounce of love we had into him, hoping he'd feel safe enough to let us in. We read him bedtime stories, built pillow forts, and cheered him on during soccer practice.

When his sixth birthday approached, we decided to throw him a party — a small one, just us and a cake with his favorite dinosaurs on it. Maybe it was a little over-the-top, but we wanted him to feel special, loved, celebrated.

As we sang "Happy Birthday" and Bobby sat in front of his cake, something shocking happened. He looked up at us, his eyes shimmering, and said his first words since we'd met him:

Ten years passed. Life was ordinary—work, friends, family, routines. One evening, as I sat at home sipping tea, there was a knock on the door. When I opened it, a policeman stood before me holding the photograph of the homeless man I'd helped on those church steps a decade earlier.

Before you buy a bunch of ‘stuff’ as gifts for family and friends this holiday season, first ask what they really need.
Maybe they need help to pay the rent, or car payment or utility bill.
Maybe they need a kid-free night, or could use a free babysitter while running errands.
Maybe they could use a night not cooking and could do with a home-cooked meal.
Maybe they need help with gas for their car so they could get to work.
Maybe they need a cup of coffee and someone who can just listen.
Maybe they need help to make this a holiday season for their children.
Maybe they need help in some other way, but don’t know hp0w to ask for help, ar are embarrassed to ask.

After my wife's funeral, I returned home. I was so empty. I didn't even take my coat off. I just walked into our bedroom and collapsed onto her side of the bed, still wearing my shoes. Her scent lingered on the sheets.
The room was dim, lit only by the small nightlight by the bed. I reached for our framed photo on the nightstand — our favorite from our engagement day — and stared at it like I'd done so many times before.
But then, something strange happened. As I held the photo, I felt a bump behind the frame. At first, I thought nothing of it, but my fingers kept tracing it, and without thinking, I removed the glass and pulled the frame apart.
The next second I just froze because a photo of my wife sitting in a hospital bed with a NEWBORN fell out of it. But we NEVER had kids. I turned the photo over and read, "Mama will always love you" in my wife's handwriting and a phone number.
My hands trembling, I dialed the number.

LITTLE BOY GOES TO TWIN BROTHER'S GRAVE, AND DOESN'T RETURN HOME EVEN AT 11 P.M.
"Mommy! Daddy! Please stop!" he yelled as he stormed into their bedroom. Evan heard his parents arguing again.
Evan missed his brother. He missed Nate so badly that he wished he had died with him... their parents no longer cared about their son, who was still alive.
"I hate you both…" he whispered, tears running down his cheeks. "I don't want to live with you! I'm going to meet Nate because only he loved me!"
Dana and Mark continued to bicker, not seeing their little son was running away to the cemetery. Evan pressed his fingertips against his brother's gravestone.
"I... I m—miss you, Nate," he wept. "Could you please ask the angels to return you? Mommy and daddy are arguing all the time. They no longer love me. Could you please come back, Nate? Please?"
Suddenly, he heard weird noise. It sounds like...someone's steps.
