In the shadows of history, pain deeply sown,
Echoes of injustice, voices overthrown.
Yet in the heart of darkness, a spark ignites,
A call for justice, for equal rights.

Retribution whispers through the winds of change,
Healing the wounds, though the scars remain.
Hands once divided, now reach across the divide,
Seeking to heal, to stand side by side.

The chains of the past, heavy and cold,
Melt in the warmth of stories retold.
Voices once silenced, now rise and sing,
Of unity, hope, and the peace they bring.

In the tapestry of time, threads intertwine,
Creating a future where all can shine.
From the ashes of sorrow, a phoenix takes flight,
Guided by love, towards the light.

Together we stand, diverse and strong,
In the symphony of justice, we all belong.
With hearts open wide, and spirits set free,
We build a new world, for you and me.
We were never meant to rule over God's sphere of love called humanity.

“Every community we go to we hear the same thing, we will take any group but single, adult Black men,” Adams said. “Look at all the protests. Protests are not for children and family shelters, protests are not for single adult women.”

Other communities have previously opposed migrant shelters, including a shelter in Clinton Hill that saw two nearby shootings and opposition to housing migrants at a school in Williamsburg.
“Everywhere I go people tell me housing is a right… but as soon as we put a brick down in the neighborhood they say wait a minute not here,” Adams said Monday. “Everyone is telling us no, no, no.”

Adams drew attention to the fact that some neighborhoods bear a higher burden than others in shelter space.

“This is not the deep south in 1950, Jim Crowism can’t exist in our city,” Adams said. “Every part of the city must have an obligation to build more housing.”
