Caught up with NYU Shanghai, who recently published my Alum Voices profile!

I was supposed to have graduated in 2017, but instead I took 2.5 years off to work in NYC. Even though I felt a bit sad and left out, as I stayed put in the city while my friends returned to Shanghai for their senior year, I have 0 regrets. It was this sabbatical that kickstarted my career.

After working tirelessly for 3 years, I was quite happy to take a sabbatical from work to return to Shanghai during the Spring of 2019 to complete my degree. Once I graduated, I returned to the city and started my 5-year tenure at Equinox.

Now, I’m a few months into my position at Google, and sharing this Alum post has me all up in my feels. If someone would’ve tried to explain my career trajectory to me 11 years ago, I would’ve had a hard time believing them. Feeling grateful!

This weekend, I surrounded myself in nature with a short hike on Saturday and a long hike on nature. Got inspired by seeing my vocal coach. Started writing new music. Meditated on my past lives. Spent quality time with some friends. And somehow managed to binge watch the show Magicians on Netflix. Flying to New York next weekend, excited to reunite with my New York fam soon! 🤍✨

A horse girl at heart 🥹🤍✨ I’m feeling nostalgic today. I spent about 10 years of my life riding horses. It was a beautiful 10 years. Horses taught me so much. Discipline, patience, empathy. I am so thankful for this life experience.

I made a mistake, or two…I guess that’s what I wanted to do. I wish I had known the shadows my past would cast on me 💭

I wrote this song when I realized that I was being judged in the present based on mistakes I had made in the past. I thought it was understandable, but I also felt that it was unfair. I grew from this experience, and even though I believed I wasn’t the same in that moment, I was still growing into my new beliefs and values. Some people aren’t meant to be with you, but they can help you become you.

24 HOURS !!! until uninvited, the album drops 💿 Track 07, FREEDOM CRIME, is a personal favorite of mine. Going from 122 bpm to 128 bpm and transitioning between 3/4 to 4/4, this track sets the bar for daring to break the cookie cutter formula of tempos, time signatures, and arrangements. Music is music. If it sounds and feels good. Then it’s good. Rules can be helpful. But sometimes we should break them. And sometimes it’s better not knowing wtf we’re doing because then we can’t overthink things.
