It's been 8 years since my wife and son passed away suddenly and I could not finish decorating this tree I tried several times and couldn't do it but this year I did it I even opened all the presents too some were wonderful antique ornaments from Leah and Michael and they now hang proudly from the Christmas tree this is one of our favorite rooms in our 1900 Queen Anne home built by the Calhoun family I believe it was the ladies parlor.

I FOUND ABANDONED TWIN GIRLS IN A NEARBY FOREST AND TOOK THEM HOME.
It was a freezing evening. I was walking my dog, Max, in the woods near my house. Just as I was about to turn back, Max froze, his ears pricked. Then, out of nowhere, he darted into the bushes.
I followed him, and what I saw made my heart stop.
Two twin girls, no older than nine, were sitting on a fallen log. They looked identical — wide, frightened eyes, and thin clothes despite the cold. My stomach dropped.
"Are you okay?" I asked. One of them shook her head.
"We live in a shed nearby… Mama left us there... a long time ago."
I didn't know what to say, so I just took them home, fed them, and set them up in the guest room.
It was late, and my 10-year-old daughter Emma was already asleep. I planned to call social services the next day.
But the next morning, I woke up to strange noises coming from Emma's room — SOFT THUDS and cries. Panic shot through me like ice. My stomach churned as I realized the twins must have gone in there, as they were missing from their bed.
My heart raced. I ran to the room and opened the door.
"What are you doing?! Don't touch her!" I screamed. ⬇️

I don’t know if this could inspire anybody or not, but my friend and I were talking about how I wanted to build a greenhouse and she walked me to hers to show me and y’all. 🤯 I never in a million years would have thought of using an old cast iron stove to heat it but she said on the really cold nights, they will just light a fire in the stove and it keeps the greenhouse warm enough where she’s growing tomatoes, lettuce, broccoli, etc. Double layers of greenhouse film. She said she keeps the tomatoes closest to the stove (front left) since they have to stay the warmest. Her greenhouse makes me feel like we too can accomplish this seemingly daunting task that I’ve been putting off for two years. Zone 7B, Alabama. 💚
Editing to add, she also raises honeybees and in the summer rolls up the sides and the honeybees and butterflies find their way in to pollinate. There is a bed of wildflowers on the outside. 🥹🥹 so jealous! 🐝🩷

I am quite discouraged with all the talk of killing so called pests. Especially in what people profess to be pollinator gardens.
I just can't square in my mind spraying for aphids or caterpillars while worrying about the shortage of other bugs, bees and butterflies.
My garden is, as I see it, gloriously over stuffed.
It's possible that not one single plant is perfectly untouched. And perhaps if I wore my glasses more, or looked closer, I would see more holes and creepy crawlies.
What I do see and hear are song birds. Robins, blue t**s, goldfinches, blackbirds, sparrows etc and buttterflies, moths, bees of all kinds. Even a hedgehog and a few bats.
I can't control light levels in the front garden, living with street lights, but the back is as dark as I can make it.
Anyway. I love seeing your gardens. I thought you might like to see a little of mine.
Edit. Thank you all for being so lovely and supportive. It gives me hope that if we all do our little bit, and let enthusiasm for beauty spread, that we can make a difference.
My garden isn't perfect, I just chose a particularly lovely part to show off. And this afternoon I shall dig up some weeds that I choose to remove. Because ultimately there's a compromise to be made so the critters, my husband and I are all happy and relaxed with things.
Thanks again. Garden on 😊

Some facts about bamboo:
1.Fast Growth: Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world. It has been recorded at growing 47.6 inches in 24 hours. Some species can even grow over a meter per day under optimal conditions. A new bamboo shoot reaches its full height in less than a year.
2. Oxygen Release: A grove of bamboo releases 35% more oxygen than any other tree out there.
3. Carbon Dioxide Absorption: Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide at a rate of 17 tons per hectare every year. It can act as a valuable carbon sink given how fast the plant grows.
4. No Fertilizer Required: Bamboo doesn’t need fertilizer to grow. It can self-mulch by dropping its leaves and use the nutrients to grow.
5. Drought Resistance: Bamboos are drought-tolerant plants. They can grow in the desert.
6. Wood Replacement: Bamboos can be harvested in 3-5 years compared to the 20-30 years of most softwood trees.
7. Building Material: Bamboo is incredibly strong and sturdy. It has been used as support for concrete as well as scaffolding, bridges, and houses.
8. Soil Stability: Bamboo has a wide network of underground roots and rhizomes that prevent soil erosion.
9. Natural Air Conditioner: Bamboo cools the air surrounding it by up to 8 degrees in the summer.
10. Invasiveness: Some species of bamboo, especially ‘running’ bamboos, can be invasive due to their extensive root systems, which allow them to spread rapidly. However, not all species are invasive, and with proper management, the environmental impact can be minimized.

My first post. I live in a 1920's craftsman bungalow in Atlanta. Over the years it lost all its integrity. Hallway was the worst, popcorn ceiling, track lighting and just blah.
I removed a floating bamboo floor, installed french doors at one end. Built wainscoting, rewired the ceiling to accommodate a can in each corner and a more age appropriate center light, then installed a tin ceiling with crown molding along with a Willam Morris wallpaper.

My clematis is about 40 years old and has beautiful blooms each season. I transplanted 5 years ago from my childhood home.
More info about the plant:
For the first 35 years it was north facing. It really took off once it was south facing.
Zone 5, south facing, I prune all past season growth each March and train the new growth up the trellis.

My daughter Gia passed away August 2021. My bedroom is truly a place to heal and reflect. Her personality and love is the reflection you see. It wasn’t planned out, and yet, it makes so much sense for me. Medallion wall art purchased, lights attached and hung to look like it was a headboard.

So the almond crisis continues.
For those of you that didn’t see my comment about the almonds, here’s the back story.
My African grey parrot loves Aldi unsalted roasted almonds. He’s been enjoying them as a treat for years.
Well they recently stopped carrying them. I’ve tried other brands, other nuts, treats made for parrots and all have been rejected and by rejected, thrown back at me with him saying “No good!”
So today I had a brain storm, that doesn’t happen often. 😜
I found some unsalted almonds but they weren’t roasted. I thought well I’ll just roast them myself.
They were in the oven for about 5 minutes when all hell broke out and I hear “What the f@&k stinks?!”
He continued to yell profanities (I’m laughing at this point). He accused the dogs of going (kaka) in the house. Mind you, my dogs don’t do that but he kept insisting that one of them went “kaka!” 😂😂😂
I waited for the almonds to cool down.
I sat next to him and told him that I got him some crackers. He calls them that.
I gave him one. Nothing, no response, he didn’t even try it!!!!
I’m screwed! Have you ever had a bird pi**ed off at you?
It’s not pleasant. He will make life unbearable for all who enter this house.
Please send help. 🦜
