General Motors is taking steps to cut costs by $2 billion over the next two years, and part of that plan includes offering buyouts to a majority of its salaried workers. The buyouts will be offered to U.S. employees with at least five years of service and international employees who have spent two or more years with the company. This voluntary separation program will help GM avoid layoffs and remain nimble in an increasingly competitive market, according to CEO Mary Barra. With some 81,000 salaried workers worldwide, GM also plans to cut about 500 executive-level and salaried positions globally.

As part of its cost-cutting efforts, GM intends to simplify vehicle production by reducing complexity and sharing more subsystems between gas-powered and electric vehicles. This move aligns with the company's goal of transitioning to an all-electric future, and it shows their commitment to making that future as efficient and sustainable as possible. GM continues to innovate and adapt to the changing automotive landscape, and we're excited to see what's next for this iconic brand.

Mercedes-Benz, one of the world's leading luxury car manufacturers, has seen a significant increase in the average price of its vehicles over the past year. According to reports, the average price of a Mercedes reached โ‚ฌ72,900 ($76,590) in 2022, which represents a 43% increase compared to 2019 levels.

This rise in price can be attributed to several factors, one of which is the carmaker's push towards the top end of the market. Mercedes has been focusing on producing high-end models, such as the S-Class sedan, which has helped the company to bolster its profits.

Another factor that has contributed to the rise in the average price of a Mercedes is the chip shortage that affected the automotive industry in 2021. This shortage led to a reduction in production, which resulted in pent-up demand for luxury vehicles. As a result, the limited supply of high-end Mercedes models has increased their value, which has led to a higher average price.

Despite the increase in price, Mercedes remains one of the most popular luxury car brands in the world. The company has a loyal customer base, and its vehicles are known for their quality, performance, and innovative technology.

After conducting a six-month trial of a four-day work week in the United Kingdom, more than 60 companies have decided to keep it as a permanent policy.

The pilot program was hailed as a "resounding success" by the participating employees who reported improved well-being, better work-life balance, and reduced stress and burnout. The companies that implemented the four-day work week saw revenues rise by 1.4% on average, and some saw an impressive 35% increase in revenue compared to previous years.

These results were released by Autonomy, a British-based think tank, and the participating companies were allowed to design a tailored four-day week policy as long as their employees' salaries were not cut and they were given a "meaningful" reduction in work time. The trial included 61 British companies with approximately 2,900 workers, across various sectors and sizes.

The lead researcher of the study, Professor Juliet Schor of Boston College, said, "Results are largely steady across workplaces of varying sizes, demonstrating this is an innovation which works for many types of organizations."

This pilot program's success is paving the way for more businesses worldwide to explore the benefits of a four-day work week. Fifteen percent of the employees who participated in the trial said they would not return to a five-day schedule, even with a pay raise.

It's time to reevaluate our traditional work schedules and explore new, innovative approaches to improve employee well-being and business growth.

Great news for women in Spain! The country has become the first in Europe to entitle workers to paid menstrual leave, allowing women to take up to three days off a month with the option of extending it to five days if they experience painful periods.

The law was passed on Thursday, along with several other sexual and reproductive rights laws, including ones expanding abortion and transgender rights. Irene Montero, Spain's equality minister, stated that without such rights, women are not full citizens. The government will pay for the menstrual leave provision.

Period pain, or dysmenorrhea, affects more than half of menstruating women, with some experiencing pain so severe that they are unable to perform normal activities for several days, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

This new law is a positive step towards improving women's health and well-being in the workplace, and that other countries will follow Spainโ€™s lead.

Meta, the parent company of instagram and Facebook, has announced that it will be launching a paid subscription program called "Meta Verified." This program will allow both users and businesses to verify their accounts with a blue badge, adding an extra layer of authenticity and security to their profiles.

According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the subscription service will cost $11.99 per month for web users and $14.99 per month for iPhone users. This new verification system will help combat impersonation by verifying users' accounts with a government ID, and subscribers will have direct access to customer support.

This announcement comes after Twitter's recent launch of their own paid verification system, Twitter Blue. Additionally, Twitter has stated that non-subscribers will soon have to give up using text messages as a two-factor authentication method, and instead must use other verification methods.

Meta Verified will be available starting this week in Australia and New Zealand. Keep an eye out for this new subscription service as it rolls out, and consider signing up to increase the security of your social media accounts!

Exciting news for plant-based eaters and McNugget fans! McDonald's is introducing plant-based McNuggets made from peas, corn, and wheat with a tempura batter. The company has partnered with Beyond Meat, a maker of plant-based proteins, to create the McPlant Nuggets, which will debut in Germany next week.

This is the second product McDonald's has co-developed with Beyond Meat, following the McPlant burger, which was introduced in 2021. While the McPlant burger has had mixed success, McDonald's is hoping that the McPlant Nuggets will be a hit.

The nationwide rollout of the McPlant Nuggets in Germany follows a limited-time test at nine restaurants in the Stuttgart area in August. McDonald's will also begin selling the McPlant burger in Germany next week. The availability of these plant-based options in future markets will depend on customer demand, so if you're excited to try them, be sure to let your local McDonald's know!

European customers have generally been more receptive to McDonald's plant-based meat products than those in the U.S. The McPlant burger is already a permanent menu item in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, and the Netherlands. Last month, McDonald's also introduced the Double McPlant burger in the U.K. and Ireland.

Beyond Meat has been working with other chains, including KFC and Panda Express, to develop plant-based tenders and nuggets as well. The company began selling plant-based chicken in U.S. grocery stores in 2021.

If you're a plant-based eater or just looking to try something new, be sure to keep an eye out for the McPlant Nuggets at McDonald's in Germany next week, and let's hope they make their way to more markets soon!

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, plans to find someone else to run Twitter by the end of this year. In a recent speech at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk stated that he first needs to "stabilize the organization" and make sure "it's financially in a healthy place" before finding a successor.

This announcement comes after millions of Twitter users voted for Musk's ouster in a poll that he set up on the platform. In response, Musk tweeted that he would step down as Twitter's CEO as soon as he found someone foolish enough to take the job. He also stated that he would continue to run the software and servers teams at Twitter after his resignation.

Musk's tenure as CEO of Twitter has been marked by sweeping, occasionally erratic shifts at the social media giant. However, the impact of his leadership has been uneven, with data from analytics firm Pathmatics by Sensor Tower showing that over half of Twitter's top 1,000 advertisers in September were no longer spending on the platform in the first few weeks of January.

With Musk's plans to find a successor, it remains to be seen who will take over as CEO of Twitter and what changes they will bring to the platform. For now, Musk will focus on stabilizing the organization and ensuring its financial health before stepping down later this year.
