I grew up a pastors kid. Not only was my father a pastor, so was my mom. I was the oldest of 3 and felt like I had to set an example. I remember in grade 8 was when I first had a crush on a girl and I had such a crisis. I tried to get advice from my dad while trying to cover up the fact that it was a girl I was interested in. There was so much anxiety in that little girl. Now as a 26 year old woman, I’m an out and proud bisexual baddie! I officially came out to my dad last year while I was visiting him in Costa Rica. It felt like a weight was lifted, but also? I healed that little eighth grader. She finally got to tell her dad the truth. Being able to come to terms with my sexuality over the years and undoing all the poisonous conditioning from the church I was raised in has been some of the hardest work. But the rewards have been so great. 💖 💜 💙

I’m in the process of releasing a lot of deeply imbedded trauma and beliefs I have about myself and my place in the world. And it’s terrifying.

I don’t have a question for you to reflect on or answer in the comments. I guess i’m just putting it out there.

This photo was taken a few hours before hurricane Matthew hit St. Augustine FL. Where I lived. Where my house was looted while I sheltered at my parents house farther inland. I felt it was appropriate. Because sometimes “releasing” begins to feel like a massive storm of emotion and trauma, not the “love and light” versions we see on social media a lot.
