Friends and family, today is a BIG day for me. Now that I am a mom of 21 month old twins and a 4 month, I had a serious discussion about the cost of childcare versus me being a stay-at-home mom, as I approached the last weeks of my parental leave.

After comparing childcare cost versus not working, the result is that I have decided to resign from the United Federation for Teachers (UFT) as Social Media Associate Manager.

I could not have asked for a better career path, that became paths, opportunities, mentors, and relationships. The respect I have for our UFT staff and members is at the highest level. The members and staff fight day and night for the rights of its members (fierce and classy). I will always be, !

Who are we? U-F-T!

So for now, I close my chapters with the UFT (with so much love) and welcome my new chapters as a !

DOE Class Trip Guidance:
For the 2021-22 school year, schools may take field trips across New York City and the tri-state area as long as:
1) students and staff remain in stable groups
2) make every effort to keep students from interacting with the general public at trip sites.

Examples of permitted trips:
-walks around the neighborhood
-visits to parks, zoos and botanical gardens
-visits to cultural institutions, including theaters, concert halls and museums.

School trips outside the tri-state area and overnight trips are permitted for students who are fully vaccinated. International trips continue to be prohibited.

Today, April 4, 1968, at the young age of 39, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by James Earl Ray around 6 pm at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. A man with a dream, a voice, and a belief that one day all men and women will be created equally, no matter the color of your skin. Consumed by obstacles and challenges to stop his message, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. only made his message louder and to the masses.

Constantly living in a world where death threats came as a norm for him, his family, and supporters, he refused to shut his mouth, stop the movement, and give in to his adversaries, which included the government of the United States. On this day in 1968 his life was taken, but his voice was not made silent. We continue his message and dream, proving that a bullet cannot stop the movement and what is a part of American history.

My grandmother, Linda Sanks, marched with Rev. King Jr. as a child. Sat by his side at several sit-ins. Sprayed by water hoses and flung to the ground by the water pressure, she never let any form of brutality silence her voice as a child. Like others, she continues to share the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., making sure that he is never forgotten. Remember this day, April 4, 1968 and let us not forget an important part of our history that was led by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Every decision we make is with our children’s health and safety in mind,” Mayor Eric Adams tweeted. “Children between 2 and 4 should continue to wear their masks in school and daycare come Monday.” https://bddy.me/3uQri0o

The move allows Mayor Eric Adams to continue enforcing the mask requirement in day care and pre-K settings amid rising COVID cases across the city.

“The Central goal is to reduce the current citywide CA [chronic absenteeism] rate of 40% to 30% by June,” the memo says. https://bddy.me/3u5cwDx
