Friko vocalist/guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger first crossed paths in high school and the two friends built upon creative chemistry and shared sources of inspiration. In February, they released their debut full-length, 'Where we’ve been, Where we go from here' and the Chicago duo + their bandmates recently came by Studio A for an FUV Live session with host Sam Sumpter. Watch Friko's charismatic set, including "Get Numb To It!" and listen to the interview now at WFUV.org or via the "FUV Live Sessions" podcast at Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Podcasts. Friko already has a winter tour set, including a return NYC stop at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 3/7. More: https://wfuv.org/content/friko-2024

Kara Manning here: On "UKNY" tonight at 11pm, an hour of conversation and songs with musician and author Miki Berenyi whose auspicious writing debut, the 2022 critically-acclaimed memoir 'Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me From Success' (published via the late, great Nine Eight Books in the UK), was finally released in the States earlier this year via Mango Publishing . It's one of the best music memoirs of the last decade.

Miki, who is presently of the Miki Berenyi Trio and Piroshka on Bella Union, and formerly of Lush, writes eloquently, with wit and insight. In her memoir, she covers the first third of her life, from her complicated childhood to Lush, the band that made her a late '80s-mid '90s rock star. It was a privilege to speak with Miki (the interview took place at FUV after her Webster Hall gig with MB3 in June); she's funny, frank and wise. MB3 has a UK tour in January/February and an EU tour in April ... and hopefully an album on the 2025 horizon. Listen at 90.7FM, streaming at WFUV.org. More:

The focus for Paul Cavalconte's "Cavalcade" at 6 p.m. is on one pivotal year in music: 1980. That today's date is December 8 should resonate with music fans, but rather than dwelling on the loss of John Lennon on this day in 1980, Paul paints a sound portrait of the music landscape that welcomed him back in after a long hiatus with artists that include Grace Jones, Talking Heads, and Brian Eno. This weekend, as Tom Waits turns 75, John Platt's "Sunday Supper" takes a deep dive into his catalogue, with covers by artists such as Shawn Colvin, Corinne Bailey Rae, and John Hammond, as well as his own distinctive vocals. John also toasts Steve Forbert another December birthday, and offers a preview of "On Your Radar." More at the "Sunday Supper" blog here:

Spotlight: WFUV member and volunteer Rona from Long Island gives back to her community in so many ways. Working with othes from her congregation in Wantagh, NY, she helped turn an unused lot into a flourishing green space. Rona says, "It's been great for our community to have a serene space to work and be with others." The produce from The Garden at TBT is harvested and donated to local food pantries for neighbors struggling with food insecurity.

Together, we're creating a world filled with music, kindness, and community. You can make a difference, too. Help WFUV deliver more music with your donation: wfuv.org/tuesday

Spotlight: WFUV Marquee member Kevin from the Bronx volunteers with City Island Oyster Reef on Long Island Sound. The organization creates oyster reefs to increase biodiversity and improve the quality of the waters around New York City. A single oyster can filter 50 gallons of water! The oyster reefs also help protect the shoreline, making it stronger and more resilient. Kevin says, "This work is important to me because we need to make sure that we nurture the environment." Kevin's making the world a better place, in the water and on the airwaves as a WFUV member. You can help by supporting WFUV with a gift for more music on this global day of giving: wfuv.org/tuesday
