Giving Tuesday Spotlight: WFUV member and volunteer Rona from Long Island

Working with othes from her congregation in Wantagh, NY, she helped turn an unused lot into a flourishing green space. Rona says, "It's been great for our community to have a serene space to work and be with others." The produce from The Garden at TBT is harvested and donated to local food pantries for neighbors struggling with food insecurity.

Giving Tuesday Spotlight: WFUV Marquee member Kevin from the Bronx
#GivingTuesday Spotlight: WFUV Marquee member Kevin from the Bronx volunteers with City Island Oyster Reef on Long Island Sound. The organization creates oyster reefs to increase biodiversity and improve the quality of the waters around New York City. A single oyster can filter 50 gallons of water! The oyster reefs also help protect the shoreline, making it stronger and more resilient. Kevin says, "This work is important to me because we need to make sure that we nurture the environment." Kevin's making the world a better place, in the water and on the airwaves as a WFUV member. You can help by supporting WFUV with a gift for more music on this global day of giving: wfuv.org/tuesday
#GIVINGTUESDAY spotlight: Delphine Blue
#GIVINGTUESDAY Spotlight: When Delphine Blue isn’t spinning new music on “The Whole Wide World,” she’s helping animals in need at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC). That's where lost and surrendered dogs end up, through no fault of their own, when families lose homes or jobs, or face serious illness. Delphine also works to support PAWS NY, where volunteers temporarily foster pets when an owner is hospitalized.

Giving Tuesday Spotlight: Kara Manning
#GivingTuesday Spotlight: When UKNY host Kara Manning lost her mother to Alzheimer’s, she went beyond caregiving and became a volunteer advocate with Alzheimer's Association in NY state, traveling to Washington D.C. and Albany, advocating for legislation for research and services. Kara says, "I wish I could talk to my mom about the organization's work and my fellow advocates; she spent much of her professional life as the executive director of a senior center advocating for older Americans. I miss her every day... and she would have been proud that I was July’s ‘Advocate of the Month’ last year."

This work is important to her because as a lifelong runner, it’s Mandi’s goal to develop more lifelong runners. By coaching for the kids' club, she helps kids develop their physical fitness, creating a new generation of runners. Mandi tells us, “The club also races to raise money for The Friendly Fridge BX, which serves local people who may not have access to healthy food, and helps redirect food out of landfills so that we’re not increasing the carbon footprint.” You can head over to Van Cortlandt Park at 10 a.m. this Sunday to join their “Lettuce Run” Turkey Trot where everyone's a winner! Peter Cat Recording Co. interview
Breaking out as one of the most globally recognized rock bands out of India, Peter Cat Recording Co. came to the Bronx for an FUV Live session, hosted by Kara Manning, while they were in the midst of their 77-date world tour, which included two sold-out headlining dates at Brooklyn Steel and Irving Plaza. Peter Cat Recording Co. "Foolmuse"
Straddling multiple genres and cleverly adhering to none, Peter Cat Recording Co. artfully weave tangential rainbows of psychedelic rock jams, jazzy interludes, Indian classical, and straight-up soul ballads into their songs all while tackling big philosophical questions. The North Goa-Delhi band came up to Studio A while in the midst of their 77-date global tour in support of their new album, 'BETA.' In this FUV Live session, hosted by Kara Manning, each of the singer-songwriters — Suryakant Sawhney, Dhruv Bhola, and Kartik Pillai — played one of their songs from BETA (that's Kartik on "Foolmuse"). The quintet also chatted about the challenges of being a band in India, recording BETA in the middle of the night, and the levels of love that flow through this new album. Listen/watch videos at WFUV.org or catch up to "FUV Live Sessions" at Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Podcasts.

Hermanos Gutiérrez, "Low Sun"
The brothers of the Swiss-Ecuadorian duo Hermanos Gutiérrez offer a dreamy escape and more on their mesmerizing sixth album, 'Sonido Cósmico.' The instrumental guitar interplay of Estevan and Alejandro, an intricate dance of six-strings, pedal steel, and Latin-sparked psychedelia and cumbia, asks both body and mind to settle and listen. FUV's Marquee Members did just that when the siblings played an intimate set at The Loft at City Winery NYC drawing on songs from their new album, including "Low Sun" and "Sonido Cósmico." In addition, the brothers played a "desert medley" of three songs found on 2020's 'Hijos Del Sol.' Watch the videos now at WFUV.org here:
