"Test my luck for brighter days," Mereba coolly observes in "Ever Needed," the second song on her gentle, sanguine second album, 'The Breeze Grew a Fire.' As the world navigates news-cycle landmines daily, Mereba's tranquil songs, awash with a perceptive awareness of family, friends, spirituality and parenthood, are windows of salvation and normalcy.

Mereba will tour North America this spring, playing Webster Hall on 5/14, and FUV caught up with her just prior to the album's Valentine's Day release via Secretly Canadian. Over email, we talked about the entwined themes on the album, her feelings about Black History Month, and what it means to have a mentor in Stevie Wonder. Find that conversation here:

If you're expecting ice escapades with Brooklyn's The Women's National Hockey League — sorry. No pucks here, but a power play of great music. In a new "NY Session" with this charming folk-rock band, beloved by "NY Slice" captain Alisa Ali, the entire crew — Kristen Nodell (lead vocals, guitar), James Russin (guitar, backing vocals), Julie Larsen (bass, backing vocals), John Ziola (keys) and Matt Russell (drums) — performed "Madison" and "TV Girl" in Studio A. Kristen and Julie took the "NY Slice" pop quiz too. Watch the session + quiz now here:

Katie Gavin of MUNA chose to make an album closer to who she is away from the spotlight of that trio — and along came that solo album, 'What a Relief.' Check out the new "FUV Live" session with Katie, which includes an interview with host Alisa Ali and a three-song set (with Nana Adjoa accompanying Katie) now at WFUV.org or via the "FUV Live Sessions" podcast on Spotify, Amazon Podcasts and Apple Podcasts.

You can also see Bartees Strange live at Bowery Ballroom on 2/19 and Rough Trade NYC on 2/21.

Katie Gavin has long been a member of MUNA, but with her solo debut, 'What a Relief,' she's not only added an ancillary project to her plate, but had the chance to lean into songs that have a folkier, intimate, and personal direction. "I've wondered for a couple of years if I was going to have the chutzpah to take this venture out on my own," she told FUV Live sessions host Alisa Ali.

In that session, Katie, joined by Dutch musician Nana Adjoa (who is also on the album), plays three songs from 'What a Relief,' including "Aftertaste," a "banger" of a song that she kept for herself. Watch/listen to the session now at WFUV.org or via the "FUV Live Sessions" podcast at , , or .

Katie is on board Lucy Dacus's upcoming spring tour and plays Radio City Music Hall on 4/23 and 4/24. 'What a Relief' is out now on Saddest Factory Records.

Bartees Strange set a notable day to release his new album, 'Horror:' Valentine's Day. But rather than a love-struck (or brokenhearted) series of songs, Strange says that this album is about confronting his own fears.

In a live performance for FUV at The Loft at City Winery NYC Strange played a fearless set that included two tracks from Horror — "Sober" and "17," joined by guitarist Daniel Kleederman and keyboardist Graham Richman. Find both videos now at WFUV.org and see Bartees Strange when he plays Bowery Ballroom on 2/19 and Rough Trade NYC on 2/21. More:

FUV's Q&A series for continues with Oakland musician Chrystia "Tia" Cabral, who records as Spellling. At the cusp of releasing her fourth album, 'Portrait of My Heart' on 3/28 via Sacred Bones Records, Spellling's looped landscapes of lush dissonance, punk-lashed rock, and dreamy, baroque art-pop turn more inward on this new album, perhaps her most personal to date.

"Playing by the book in the music industry is not my path — deep down, I know that," says Cabral, "but it doesn’t mean I don’t have a place in the industry. I am always going to pursue what I am deeply moved and influenced by, never what I feel contrived to make or be."

See Spellling live at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 9th.
