Saint Josephine Bakhita, virgin: born in the Darfur region of Sudan, she was taken captive as a young girl, and suffered cruel servitude, being sold several times in the slave markets of Africa. On gaining her freedom, she became a Christian in Venice, and a religious with the Daughters of Charity. She spent the rest of her life in Christ at the service of all, in the city of Schio in the province of Vicenza, Italy. From the Roman Martyrology.

Saint Josephine Bakhita, Virgin, pray for us!
