A Promising Future with IBEW Local 25: Joe Charnawskas
For those considering a career in the skilled trades, Joe’s story highlights the opportunities, stability, and sense of community that come with joining IBEW Local 25.
Joe’s journey wasn’t a direct path to the electrical trade. After high school, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s in Physics from Michigan Tech and a Master’s in Atmospheric Science from Stony Brook University. Despite his academic achievements, he struggled to find a job that aligned with his degrees.
Coming from a long line of IBEW members in Detroit (Local 58)—including his retired father and active brother—Joe started exploring the electrical trade. After talking with his family and learning about the benefits of union membership, he decided to apply. Once he was accepted, he never looked back.
Now a third-year apprentice with IBEW Local 25, Joe has found fulfillment in the work, appreciating the hands-on nature of the job, the camaraderie among members, and the strong sense of brotherhood. He acknowledges that had he known about the opportunities within the union earlier, he would have joined much sooner.
Joe’s story serves as an inspiration to those unsure of their career path. The IBEW apprenticeship program offers competitive wages, excellent benefits, and long-term career security—all while learning a valuable, in-demand trade. For those who enjoy working with their hands and want a rewarding career, IBEW Local 25 provides a clear and promising path forward. IBEW Local 25 - Providing some incredible views of the South Fork Wind Turbines.
South Fork has become the first fully operational, commercial-scale offshore wind project in the United States, marking a historic milestone in renewable energy. Standing before these massive turbines, each towering at twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, is awe-inspiring. Projects like this not only showcase the scale of innovation but also signify a transformative step toward a sustainable future for our children.
Did you Know:
Just one rotation of a turbine can generate enough electricity to power a home for more than 24 hours. With 12 turbines harnessing the strong Atlantic winds, South Fork produces enough clean, renewable energy to power 70,000 homes and businesses across New York.
Thank you to Tim McCarthy Offshore Wind Rep and Renewable Green Energy for sharing these incredible photos. #SkilledForLife #IBEWNECA #strongertogether #IBEW25 #ulanetwork #Uniontrades International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO National Electrical Contractors Association - NECA
