The Educators & Parents Night of Comedy is a time for a collaborative pairing and laughter! Comedian Job provides clean comedy that has been headlined for church and cooperate events. He has also traveled and performed throughout Europe and has several rounds of success on the Showtime at the Apollo stage. Derek Walton is a young person with a seasoned old-school voice. He has an eclectic blend that appeals to a range of audiences. Hillary Ravell is a Mastery School Specialized Services AP by day and a side-splitting comedian in her limited spare time. The stage will be lit!!! The proceeds from this event will support the Spilling the Tea Girls Mentoring Program. *Small bites and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

The Night Shift

We were in bed by 10:00. I could barely keep my eyes open through the bedtime routine and my beloved had been restless and anxious all day. The caregiver certainly got her steps in! The restlessness continued and he was up and down. My short window of deep sleep is interrupted, it’s over for me. Each time he sits up, he requests a drink of water. He drinks more water over the next two hours than he has all day. I rub his chest with lavender scented lotion and cradle his head in the crook of my arm; it only lasts for an hour.

I finally yield to turning on the television at 1:30 am. Although his eyes are closed and his back is turned, he intermittently bursts into laughter as syndicated episodes of Martin entertain him. Any attempt to turn off the television causes him to sit up. I am forced into compliance, I cannot sleep with the glare or the sound; he cannot sleep without them. It is now 4:00am.

In less than 2 hours, I will begin the morning routine before heading to work and this joker will be as snug as a bug in a rug, snoring peacefully. The caregiver will undoubtedly reach out to me around noon to see if he should be awakened for breakfast. The left shoulder of me would want him shaken awake in drill-sergeant fashion; but the right shoulder of me will prevail and ask her to keep the room dark until he is ready.

So, if there is a viral video of a woman at her desk with watery eyes or slumped over her desk, she is me, I am her!!! Happy Monday!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes for True Way. As we celebrated another year, we reflected on our impact. While many of our programs have been paused we continue to inspire youth. We hosted our annual Think Outside the Box conference post pandemic. The youth were reminded that character matters and that we must be intentional with our words and actions. We launched Spilling the Tea Girls Mentoring Group at Mastery Charter Pickett School. This is a sisterhood club for middle school girls. We collaborated with Tufas Boulder Rick Climbing Gym and the Philadelphia Film Society. In November, we partnered with Collaboration Over Competition to co-host the 3rd annual Youth Pitch Contest. It was phenomenal! In addition, Cooks With Books has been a mainstay in supporting literacy initiatives. I became a Readby4th Reading Captain and have found my happy place reading, singing, and making treats with kids!
Currently, we are running a new chapter of Spilling the Tea Girls. We are open to connecting with businesses, organizations, or brands that will provide fun and inspirational experiences for our girls. We are also enlisting the community for financial support with a range of sponsorship opportunities. Donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated.
