Sometimes we can have upwards of 20+ cats at the rescue... To only have 7 adoptables in-house is huge right now! Of course we're not counting all the cuties we have out in foster, but it's a win we'll take to start out 2024 with.

Ok, this adoptable sweetheart is a very special one to us at BEAR! We'd love to get Sniffy into a forever home for her New Year to start off strong. ⏰🎉 Can you help us do it?

If you ever visited BEAR, you probably never saw her. She was timid and shy beyond all measures for the entire year she lived there. Now that she's in a foster home, she's been able to show her true purrsonality.

This is Sniffles, who is the one of the sweetest yet sassy kitties you will ever meet. She has slight vision issues with clouded eyes, but it doesn't keep her from playing with your toes in the middle of the night. She loves electric blankets, cuddling, and as many pets that you're willing to give. Sniffles is truly an amazing cat just over a year old, and though she's cohabitating with another kitty alright now in foster, she may be better in a single-pet household. Invite Sniffles into your home, and you'll receive more cat love than imaginable!

Update: Cypress is adopted!

Our BEAR volunteers had SO much fun this year partnering with Tuna and The Rock Cats Rescue Acrocats Meowy Catmas show! We were thrilled to be their official rescue partner this season, and they were able to donate almost $800 to our non profit, plus we raised funds through our BEAR holiday goodie table and raffle! Huge thank you to Samantha and the Acrocats for involving us, and even helping to showcase our three kittens, Spruce, Maple & Cypress on stage doing tricks!

Spruce and Maple have already been adopted, but if you'd like a real life circus cat, Cypress comes complete with an Acrocats clicker training kit. UPDATE: The girls have a foster lined up!! If you know someone who's interested in adopting, though, get in touch.

Somehow, these two gorgeous English Spaniel girls were given up on and surrendered. Who knows what compelled someone to surrender these pups right at the holidays, but they're in immediate need of a place to go by the weekend... These beautiful girls will have to go to the pound if they don’t find a place by Saturday.

Bailey (black and white) and Willow (black) are not spayed, but they are housebroken and crate trained. They are high energy English spaniel females and have been together since birth, but could be separated if needed. They get along with other dogs, as well as cats and kids, and know basic commands. They're each about 30 to 35 pounds.

UPDATE: Captain is adopted!

Merry Adoptable Christmas!!! 🎁💚 This is 6 month old Captain, and he's ready for his forever ship. He has THE softest fur, and is a friend to everyone at BEAR. He's excellent at flopping, playing, snuggling, popping bubbles, posing in our holiday window with Santa, and in general being adorable. His eyes are very slightly clouded, but it doesn't seem to slow him down! From our furry ginger skipper, Merry Christmas to all!

Will Santa bring Captain home with you this year? He's been very good and is ready to sail away into your hearts!

Update: Holly and Percy are adopted!

Merry Adoptable Christmas Eve! 🎁💚Mr.Tuxedo Mustache is aptly-holiday-named Holly. And his brother the adorable tabby is Persimmon, aka Percy. They were named for native Louisiana trees!

Holly & Percy were found on the street playing near Claiborne, definitely not a good spot for tiny kittens. They've been in foster since Thanksgiving, and are just back to BEAR and ready for adoption! They're about 3-4 months, and come across shy at first but are 100% kitten playful energy after they feel relaxed in their space! They'll sleep with you at night, and snuggle, and then chase string like it was their job. They love bird watching out the window, and would love a forever home with you. Look how cute they are under the tree!

Huge thank you to the Crescent City Leathermen!! 🖤 They raised funds and generously donated $500 to BEAR, which goes so far to help us help more animals in need. If you're not familiar, they're a local non-profit who arranges social activities among their members and uses the events for fundraising, to support and give back to the LGBTQIA community. ❄️Massive thank you to Catherine & Misti Gaither and their annual Winter Wonderland ball, for choosing BEAR as their featured Non-Profit this year!! This was their 12th year of raising funds for local non-profits while promoting unity and recognizing individuals in our community. We were so honored and thrilled to receive the gracious donation from Winter Wonderland this year. It takes a village to make our little rescue run, and Winter Wonderland sure brought the village.❄️

UPDATE!! Great news. Holly and her people from Trampled Rose Rescue are amazing. Someone went out there this evening and secured him and he will be going to the vet in the morning and to Trampled Rose Rescue. They operate on a very limited budget, so if you would like to donate for this dog, go to their page.
Update. They will be closed at six this evening. They will be open in the morning. They put food and water out. He ignored the food, but gobble down the water.

The people that work there, are bringing food and water, But they are not allowed to put him in their company vehicles. If anyone is in the area and could help, I could put you in touch with the manager.

Big Easy Animal Rescue is overflowing and the calls keep coming. Two year old purebred labradors looking for Foster or forever home or another rescue to take them in. BEAR will take care of all medical.
We just have nowhere for them to go. They are housebroken and crate trained and love the water. They are up-to-date on their shots and neutered. Heartworm negative.

🕊🌈We're sad to say we had to say goodby to one of our shop mascots, BaeBae, who's gone over the rainbow bridge. She came to us at 16 years old with such a bad case of Cushings she couldn’t walk, and a heart murmur with an intensity grate of five out of six. After three months of good food and treatment, she could trot down the street, and was almost 18 when she passed away naturally this past week.

She was loved by all our volunteers, and was a quiet, relaxed spirit that became a fixture of the BEAR shop. She lived a long life and we're so thankful to have been able to offer her senior love and extend her life a few more years. She will be missed. 💕

We're ending 2023 at BEAR with a bang! We're always looking to get our non-profit rescue known by more people, and we've got a brand new tri-fold pamphlet to hand out! One of our volunteers donated their time to design it, and we are so thankful to Sir Speedy printing in the CBD for offering us a generous locals discount!!

Every penny counts to help us support our animals, though. Please consider donating to our mini fund raiser to pay for the cost of these 500 pamphlets. The first of many! Look at this beautiful seal point coat Cocoa is sporting! She's a ~10 year old female seal point Siamese, and she's looking for immediate placement in a foster or forever home. She's been begging to get in peoples houses and is very sweet, despite these wary vet photos! She could do well as either an indoor or indoor/outdoor kitty for someone. Where are our Siamese kitty lovers out there?

Today is Celebrate Shelter Pets Day, and we've got a special one for you! This is J.R., and he needs a foster or forever home ASAP. 6 year old J.R. was living in a pet hoarding situation. He was taken from these unfortunate circumstances to try and find a better life for him. A side effect of his former life is that he now has separation disorder, being prone to higher levels of anxiety than usual. But he does much better with another dog around, and in exchange for some patience and structure would make a great companion. Given his former situation he’s 90% house broken, but needs help with that last 10%. If you or someone you know could help J.R.:
