Today Tulsa music legend Leon Russell would be celebrating his 82nd Birthday.

Groovy is excited to announce that we are co-presenting a special concert on April 26th at the famed Tulsa Theater with Leon’s Touring Band, who toured the world with him highlighting the legendary Mad Dogs And Englishmen Tour, where Russell led the band for fellow icon Joe Cocker. This year’s concert builds on a long tradition of Leon birthday shows in Tulsa, which he himself hosted for many years.

Leon’s Touring Band will be made up of longstanding band members, including Jackie Wessel, Brandon Holder, Beau Charron, Chris Simmons and Brian Lee, plus guest vocalists Mike Atkins performing Joe Cocker’s songs, Jacob Dement, Cassii Stephan, Sarah Frick, Ayngel McNall and Wanda Watson. Anchors of the Tulsa music scene rounding out the band include Barret Lewis, Dustin Pittsley, Alan Ransom, Ez Mireles, and longtime Leon Russell champion Rick Huskey, who has owned and maintained another Leon landmark, his Grand Lake recording studio, the home of countless iconic recordings. Along with featured guests Taylor and Isaac Hanson, the special concert will be sure to capture the spirit of the Tulsa Sound which famously fused many influences including gospel, blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll.
