Spring had our peppers shining, but summer turned up the heat too high! π©πΆοΈ Our orange bell pepper got sun-scorched, so now weβre moving our urban farm to a shadier spot. Filtering that sunlight through the trees to keep our crops cool and thriving. π³

How to create an earthworm compost bin, a key component for turning food scraps into nutrient-rich "worm tea" for your garden.
Steps to Create Your Earthworm Compost Bin:
1. Gather Your Materials: You'll need three Home Depot buckets.
2. Ventilation: Drill holes all around the top and sides of each bucket for ventilation. This ensures your worms can breathe.
3. Fill the First Bin: Start with food scraps, a bit of dirt, leaves, and small branches.
4. Add Worms: Introduce your earthworms to the mix. Make sure to store the bin indoors if temperatures exceed 80Β°F to keep the worms from drying out. (π)
5. Nature Takes Its Course: As the worms process the food, their wasteβknown as "worm tea"βwill drain into the bottom container, ready to fertilize your plants.
By using this method, you'll create a continuous supply of compost to boost the health of your container garden, giving back essential nutrients to the soil. I'll show the compost material in the next video. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks in our container gardening series!

Pruning for Perfect Tomatoes π
Cutting off these nodes is crucial to ensure all the plant's energy goes into growing delicious fruit. Although I could really use a bag! π±

No Garden??? Lil Robyn had a special request to turn part of our urban garden into her playground. As much as I love growing and sharing my homegrown veggies, nothing beats seeing my daughterβs smile. So, this weekend, I moved aside my greens and set up her bounce house. Watching her jump and laugh made every bit of effort worth it.

Straight from our urban garden to our dinner table π΄ Today, my daughter and I picked this beautiful zucchini, grown with care right in our backyard. We're excited to chop it up and make a fresh, organic meal for our family tonight.
Gardening started as a way to bring healthy, affordable food to our table, and it's become so much more. In many Black communities, getting fresh produce isn't always easy. But by growing our own, we take control of our health and what we eat. Even if you just have a small space, you can grow something special.
It's not just about food; it's about self-sufficiency and healthier living. Let's inspire each other to grow our own and enjoy the benefits of fresh, homegrown food. π±
