Gift-giving can be fraught with gaffes when you focus on your own great taste and heroic efforts rather than the person you're giving to. Prof. Nathan Novemsky, an expert in consumer behavior, has research-based advice for how to present the best presents. Some of his tips:

🎁 Get into the shoes of the recipient (them, not you!).
🎁 Focus on the ease and convenience of using the gift over its attractiveness.
🎁 Most people don't care how much trouble you went to.
🎁 Experiences you and the recipient can do together are a great way to strengthen your bond.
🎁 When possible, give the people what they want—not what they didn't ask for.

Read more from Prof. Novemsky at the link below.

Do your loved ones want their presents to be expensive or thoughtful? Do they want to be surprised or to get items from their wish lists? We asked Professor Nathan Novemsky, a psychologist and expert in consumer behavior, to explain some of the common mistakes that gift-givers make.
