: 2 weeks ago my co-worker and friend Rachel had to have an emergency c-section at 24 weeks gestation with her beautiful twin girls! This family is fighting and I am asking for prayer for these girls!!! Please pray for Lydia and Sadie by name and ask for healing and ask that Rachel and Nate have peace in their hearts and the strength they need!
Meet sweet Lydia:
Lydia’s feeds were resumed 10/8 after a week of belly rest due to an ileus that resolved.
Last night she had blood in her stool and a distended abdomen. Her abdominal X-ray was okay but as a precaution they placed her back on belly rest (held her feedings).
It is assumed that she has something called medical nec (necrotizing enterocolitis). This is a disease of the intestinal tract in which the tissue lining becomes infected, inflamed, dies, and can slough off. Treatment is antibiotics, IV fluids and nutrition, holding all oral feedings, and emptying the stomach via low suction on the feeding tube. Medical Nec can turn into surgical nec in which the bowel actually perforates and surgical intervention is needed. Sometimes this leads to a small repair of the intestines or a temporary ostomy. Often times a large portion of the intestine must be removed. In severe cases, it is fatal. Surgical nec has a 50% mortality rate.
Meet sweet Sadie:
Sadie is doing well overall. She is getting steroids to help wean her off the ventilator hopefully this week. She’s being fed 10 mls of milk every 3 hours through her OG tube. She’s off TPN. Her lungs are still a little hazy but improving. She’s off antibiotics.
We know that our God is bigger and he can heal these beautiful babies!!
