I came home from a work trip to find my husband covered in tile dust, grinning like an idiot. "Surprise! I redid the bathroom while you were gone!"

I walked in and wanted to scream. Everything was white. Stark, hospital white. For months I'd been saving inspiration photos from the home design community on the Tedooo app - gorgeous bathrooms with warm wood, colorful tiles, personality. I have been saving items I liked there that would match my style, too. I'd shown him my favorites a dozen times.

But he did this completely without asking. Just sterile white everywhere.

He's so proud, pointing out the rainfall showerhead like he cured cancer. I managed to say "It's beautiful" but inside I'm dying. This looks like a doctor's office, not the cozy spa retreat I dreamed of.

Now I feel like a total bitch. He spent weeks on this, used our savings, did all the work himself. But I hate it. Every time I look at those plain tiles, I think about all the beautiful handmade touches I'd found on Tedooo that could have made this space actually feel like me.

Am I being an ungrateful wife for wanting to tell him I hate his surprise? Or should I just smile and pretend to love this boring white box for the rest of my life? Our Old House

I'm sitting in the hospital, holding our little one, and my husband sends me this photo. Says: "Don't worry, I got everything ready."
And I... I just broke down crying. Right there in the room, the nurse got scared, thought something was wrong.
But these were tears of relief. Because these last few months... man, these last few months were rough.
See this furniture? It's an old entertainment center we bought at a garage sale like three years ago for next to nothing. It was sitting in the garage collecting dust, and I kept nagging "we said we'd do something with it for the baby."
And my husband... my husband was drowning in orders from his Tedooo app shop. Wooden toys, custom furniture, restoring old dressers - customers were just bombarding him with work. And I got it, we needed the money, especially with a baby coming, but... but sometimes it felt like he cared more about other people's nurseries than ours.
We even had a fight about it at eight months. I was crying that he's always covered in sawdust, always working on his projects, and our nursery is still empty. And he got mad that I didn't understand - he was working FOR US.
Now look at the bottom photo.
While I was in the hospital for four days, this man... he took all his professional talent, all those skills that I'd been jealously thinking were "stolen from our family," and turned our old junk into the perfect baby station.
He repainted everything white (his signature style that his customers love so much), added a tiny rod for little clothes, shelves for diapers... And those teddy bears - he told me he ordered them from this girl on Tedooo who makes toys for special needs kids. "Wanted our little one to have special friends," he said.
I call him, crying: "I'm sorry. Sorry I didn't understand."
And he goes: "Come on babe. I was working for us. Just... wanted to make everything perfect."
Four nights. Four nights he used all his craftsmanship not for strangers, but for us. Every joint perfect, every detail thought through, like for his most precious clients.
And here we are driving home, I walk into the nursery, and there... there's this masterpiece. And my husband, white paint still under his nails, exhausted but so proud.
"Now you get why I needed all that practice?" he asks.
Turns out, all those months of work, all those orders... he was perfecting his skills for this moment. For our baby. For our home. Our Old House

Just to clarify - the neighbors are literally steps away to the left in this picture. Their backyard has a perfect view into the windows. The background is the retaining wall that's directly behind the property.

My daughter just bought her first house and she has these great windows in the eat in kitchen. We need privacy (especially at night) and can't figure out the best way to cover them. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks! Our Old House

When my wife was in hospice care, she kept asking me about the old oak tree in our front yard. "Promise me you'll never cut it down," she'd whisper, her voice barely audible. "That's where we carved our initials 30 years ago. That's where you proposed. Promise me it'll always be there."
I promised, not knowing that three months after we lost her, the city would condemn the tree. Root rot, they said. Safety hazard. It had to come down.
I fought them for weeks, but in the end, I had to watch as they cut down the last physical reminder of our love story. I saved every piece of that tree I could, stacking the wood in my garage like I was hoarding memories.
For two years, I couldn't bring myself to touch it. Then one day, scrolling through the Tedooo app where I'd been buying handmade memorial pieces to honor my wife, I saw a post about someone who'd turned their grandfather's barn wood into furniture. Something clicked.
I taught myself woodworking through YouTube videos and late-night practice sessions. Every cut, every curve of that tree became part of this door. The branches that once held our initials now welcome everyone who enters our home.
The glass panel holds river rocks from the stream where we had our first date. When the light hits it just right, those stones look like they're floating, suspended in time like my memories of her.
Now when people ask about the door, I tell them it's made from love. Literally. Every grain of wood holds 30 years of marriage, and every time I walk through it, I feel her presence.
She kept her promise to always be here. And I kept mine to never let that tree truly die.Our Old House

I just moved into my new home and need everyone’s vote please. I’m putting teal curtains in the living room. Should I do floor to ceiling curtains or regular length curtains? And should I put a panel on each end only or 4 panels at each window break. I don’t want cover the windows because I have a beautiful pond view but want to add some color. Please excuse the striped chair. It’s for sale on marketplace and I have no where else to keep it for now.

This porch saved my life when I had nowhere else to go
Six months ago, I was sleeping in my car.
My husband of 12 years decided he "needed space" and kicked me out with nothing but a suitcase. I was 48, had no job (he insisted I stay home), no savings account in my name, and honestly... no clue how to survive on my own.
I spent three weeks rotating between Walmart parking lots and 24-hour diners, showering at the gym, trying to figure out what the hell to do with my life.
Then my elderly neighbor Mrs. Chen saw me crying in my Honda one morning. She knocked on my window and just said, "Come inside, honey."
This woman barely knew me, but she let me stay in her guest room while I got back on my feet. Refused to take rent money. Said the only payment she wanted was for me to "make her porch pretty again" since she couldn't bend down to garden anymore.
I had never decorated anything in my life - my ex controlled every decision in our house. But I started with one plant. Then another. Found this gorgeous rug at a thrift store for $12.
The wicker furniture I took from the Mrs. Chen's granddaughter was selling it on the Tedooo app after moving (I also have my craft store there, so she knows me). When she heard my story, she delivered it for free and threw in those cushions. Said her grandma deserved to have beautiful things, and so did I.
Every morning now, I sit here with my coffee before heading to my new job. Mrs. Chen joins me with her tea. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we just watch the neighborhood wake up.
But this porch... it's where I learned I could create something beautiful. Where I remembered I was worth saving. Our Old House

I got new porch cushions in today. When I order I thought they were beige, brown, and blue. Turns out they are beige, brown, and gray.
1) exchange for different pattern/color
2) keep and tie in blue with throw pillows
