🚨 WARNING MUSHY GUSHY POST 🚨
When I first moved to New York, gave me the most precious gift of discovering inclusive, magical and EXTRAORDINARILY fun q***r experiences, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the adventure tonight at …for a very specific reason.
When I moved to New York (and was a particularly awful standup comedian), I had a hard time making new q***r friends that shared my values. I had trouble finding spaces where I could be comfortable being authentic, and honestly didn’t know people who would care to help me discover myself in my new home.
But I knew I liked glowing things 😂, so one night I got on my Citibike from my nearly condemned apartment in Astoria and rode all the way to Bushwick in the cold to attend a Glamcocks party, and…I was blown away.
Not only were the music, production, and vibes on point, but people were…KIND. They genuinely cared about my experience and presented moments to participate in help others with their experiences. I loved the party so much I stayed until the very end and helped clean up! I didn’t know it then, but that night formed my foundation of Burner values, which now are my guiding light for being an ethical adult in the crazy world we live in. And the warm hug I felt that night has influenced everything I’ve done in events since: from my DJ sound to .fip to .
7 years later, I am beyond proud to camp with Glamcocks because the magic we get to build together…and invite people into. Thanks to this lovely group of people, I’ve come to understand who I am, how wonderful it is to share with others, and the power of true friendship. And if tonight, we can bring just one person the same experience of belonging and security that I had in 2018, then it’ll all be worth it.
I’m DJing from 10:30p-12:30a tonight and the whole lineup is stellar. I have a link in bio for more details, etc.
