Yes!!! Amen!!!

We share this nightly prayer in support of all of our Armed Forces - for those who are currently serving our country and for those who have bravely gone before them.

Heavenly Father, As we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, please hold our servicemen and women, including our K-9 soldiers, in your strong arms.

Cover them with your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.

We also ask that you remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray that your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives.

Please watch over our Veterans who have so valiantly served our country. Bless them with wholeness and love. Shelter them, heal their wounds, comfort their hearts and grant them peace.

We pray that our Armed Forces will be supplied with the strength to face each day and may they trust in the Lord’s mighty power to accomplish the tasks that are set before them.

Lastly, we pray that our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support; may they gain strength in knowing how proud we are of them and that we are grateful for their service to our country.

In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen.

Where There Was Water

2014 was a weird year for Texas Wildflowers. It wasn't a bad year, but rather it was an out of place year. A serious drought west of I35, left most of the hill country without major displays of wildflowers. Texas Wildflowers handle drought by playing the long game. They produce much more seed in a good year than needed. This extra seed remains in the ground for years waiting for the right moment to come forth.

That moment came for bluebonnet seed along the banks of the Colorado River near Austin. The drought resulted in the water levels dropping and shifting enough to produce this scene at Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area.

It was beyond an incredible sight. I was in the Ennis area when I heard about this from friends. I got to the area late in the day, right before a storm.

My point is that even in a not so great season, surprises can happen.

Tree in a Field of Blue

To me a single tree in a field of blue yanks on my creative chain. My brain wants to know why there is a single oak tree in a field of sandyland bluebonnets. The other trees are back along a line. Is this tree a rogue or the hero-champion out in front of the advancing army of trees?

This photo was taken March 17, 2019 near Sutherland Springs, Texas which is southeast of San Antonio. This was about a week early for that location.

FYI, the yellow flowers are probably either a species of grounsel or coreopsis.

In 2012, it seemed like the entire season was two or more weeks early. I went out in the middle of March to do my pre-season scouting. I found full grown plants in full bloom instead of large green rosettes. I was shocked!

Even the Ennis area was early by 10 days. It's really difficult to predict this without early scouting. Thankfully, I now have some support to help with the hundreds of miles of scouting.

The recent warmer than normal temperatures without rain is going to favor an early season. NOAA is projecting below normal temperatures for March and equal chances of rain. Even with the early blooms, rain will encourage the plants to keep on producing flowers. We need normal temperatures and a series of rain systems mixed with sunny days in March.

Don't Panic!
Even in 2012, there were still bluebonnets in bloom in April and many other wildflowers as well. 2012 was the earliest season that I have experienced.

This photo was taken March 16, 2012 near Loyal Valley which is about halfway between Fredericksburg and Mason (closer to Mason). This location should typically peak no earlier than the first week of April.
