Had a blast fishing the BASS Nation Qualifier at the Arkansas River in Muskogee OK. Goal was to make top 20 and Punch a ticket to Nationals on Grand in November. Mission accomplished. After a tough day 1, couldn’t be happier to make a comeback the second day.

I’ve never fished anywhere with such a mind twisting gauntlet of choices to make. Do you run up river and lock? Do you run down river and lock to Kerr? Do you stay in the Muskogee Pool? If you make a long run and run over 100 miles a day, will 3.5hrs be enough time to catch a limit? If you catch a limit, will you even be able to get back through the lock? Day 1 the wind is gonna blow 35mph? Is it even feasible to get to my water if I decide to lock to Kerr? Will the wind blow out my spots I spend all day getting to and from? Will the cold front shut down the moving bait bite completely? The stretch of river around take off is closed off due to bridge debris that fell into the river day before official practice. Will they even allow you to run up river? Do I stay in the Muskogee Pool and fish shoulder to shoulder with 10 other boats on every known spot that holds fish? Did countless competitors go into my water and stick all the fish just prior to the tournament? I saw the changing conditions and gauntlet of challenges twist competitors minds into knots unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.

Had to let the cougar loose on the final day of competition. 🙂. Shake and bake!
