The NC Department of Water Resources will hear public comments tonight on a permit for a 649-acre limestone mine in Vanceboro. According to the Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper, “This is essentially our last chance to get the terms of the permit altered to better protect the water quality and ecosystems of Blounts Creek -- as well as protect landowner wells -- before they begin discharging up to 12 million gallons of water per day into Blounts Creek.” More details can be found on Sound Rivers website: https://soundrivers.org/current-action-alerts/

The City of New Bern posted two “Notice of Public Hearing” signs for one application to rezone 597 Washington Post Road. One sign says Aug. 15 and the other says Nov. 12. The Board of Aldermen agenda shows the public hearing is set for tomorrow. They will also consider a 6% increase in electric rates along with a power cost adjustment.
