With so many negative reports we are constantly hearing from the media in regards to Black Fathers, it can be easy to fall victim to believing the stereotype...

Often times in managing people, I find myself taking the high road and trying to maintain professionalism to show my genuine respect, admiration and concern for those around me. Moreover, in operating day to day in business, I genuinely value what those around think of my character/ integrity…sometimes even at my financial detriment.

Approximately 4 months ago, I shared some of the details of an encounter involving my business partner as well as Robert Dee with Frederick W. Not to get to in detail, I expressed to him (Fredrick Weathersby)that I do not want him (Robert Dee)in attendance to anything involving my studio or stores. And contrary to anyone’s thinking, it had NOTHING to do with my feelings towards him, it was more so involving his unpleasant encounter with my business partner.

Now rather Robert Dee was justified or not is not the essential issue; the issue is his actions following that. This man (Robert Dee) whom I did somewhat admire, went online and trashed my business as a means to not share his dealings but rather to personally attack my brand and professional image along with my business partners. Therefore, in order to mitigate the damage for all parties, I opted to ban him from everything involving my Studio as well as Stores. Seeing how Mr Dee was adamant at that time in not returning, I saw no need for further action or quarrels with him. I opted for peace and maintaining the respect I truly had for Mr Dee. Moreover, with his stance that our service was “bad” by Mr Dee, I only assumed it logical that he would never return to shop or patronize our venue….little did I know that I misjudged his interpretation of bad service or his comments about our store.

In the past I have welcomed him (Mr Dee) to MANY of my events, I’ve even honored him with the help of colleagues publicly for his accomplishments in the arts. So I do not now or ever intend on going low with this elderly gentleman , however I have an absolute right to be respected for my wants at my venue.

I Explicitly told Frederick W (Monday Night Jazz curator)I do not want Mr Dee at any functions at my studios and as it can clearly be seen he defied my wishes and created the palate for this unpleasant reunion. Frederick’s invite was beyond distasteful to all parties and for that I am going to professionally part ways with him and my involvements with any and all his artistic endeavors at this time.

As in any line of work/position or arena, we are all entitled to respect, and in this instance respect was not given to me on the part of Frederick W, who invited this man knowing full well my stance as the Venue Owner and the Financial Arm behind his “Monday Night Jazz”

Moreover, rather you agree with my stance is inconsequential to me. The fact is, it’s my place of business and therefore it is my prerogative to cultivate any environment I want. Also, the environment that I do strive to cultivate is carefully curated to create a space for all of our full time technicians, our interns, customers and artist to thrive. My company is not only a place of financial ties for me and my business partner but it serves as an incubator for the North Nashville Community at large. Computer House is a resource many depend on for essential IT services, training and products while’s Solberg continues to be an ever bright spot for creatives in North Nashville….and for that incredible responsibility our community has granted me the ability to manage I take it extremely personal.

Still, I do wish my actions steered higher than what was seen and for that I can and do sincerely apologize to Robert Dee. Even though he was not gifted an invitation by me and our professional stance could be seen as obvious to many, I should have reframed from becoming low brow or participating in tomfoolery to this degree. (Again after personal reflection, I apologize. Anyone that knows me, I pray knows this is by far not my character and it’s NEVER been my intention to create an uncomfortable environment for any patron at Solberg).

Going forward I will continue to have Jazz nights at my studio and I will continue to celebrate the expression of any and all art forms that I choose to celebrate to whatever capacity and with whomever I choose to do so with. I will continue to embrace heritage and the beauty of North Nashville and I will certainly continue to invite all of those I have grown fond of ….that being each and every one of you.

To my patrons/customers I do apologize deeply for missing the mark, I pray for your total forgiveness and I do hope you all will continue to entrust your business and passions with me and my team at Computer House and Solberg going forward.

From the bottom of my heart ♥️ I appreciate every visit, every dollar spent and every laugh I’ve been gifted but moreover I appreciate , the lasting impact I continue to make with you all as patrons n friends

Thanks again and I apologize

Daniel 😎

Each week this month we are highlighting African American listings in the National Register of Historic Places and Tennessee Historical Commission markers in honor Black History month.

Nashville is well known for its rich music history. Located within a historically African American community, Jefferson Street became the center for jazz, blues, and R&B from 1940-1960. Several famous artists, from Jimi Hendrix to Ray Charles, played at the clubs there.

You can find this Tennessee Historical Commission marker on Jefferson Street in Nashville.
