This week’s “Gear Mania Mondays” featured piece is the Solid State Logic Six Mini Channel Strip. The SSL SiX Channel is a single-width 500 Series mini channel strip using the SuperAnalogue channel processing features from SSL’s SiX console including the Mic-pre, low and high frequency EQ, as well as the single k**b compressor. The SiX Channel is a simple way to add additional Mic/Line inputs to the line level inputs of any professional audio device, including the Stereo channels of the SiX console.

This week’s “Gear Mania Mondays” featured piece is the Orange Micro Dark Stack, a hybrid (tube & solid state) 20-watt amp head and matching 1x8" black cabinet with a Valve/Solid State Hybrid Design. The Micro Dark sports a new high gain circuit that blends valve and solid-state technology. The preamp uses a single ECC83 (12AX7) valve and produces a huge range of usable tones with warm cleans, smooth overdrive, and immense, crushing distortion. The Micro Dark electric guitar amplifier head uses a tube front end to push a 20-watt solid state power section for everything from clean to high-gain tones. On a friend’s timeline, she said “Never forget.” Another friend responded and asked, “where were you when it happened.” My response to that questions is below. What is yours? Where were you when our lives all changed on this horrifying day?

D Sarah Stamps I was in my apartment, across the street from MTSU. My neighbor, Jared Gutschke, came and knocked on my door and told me to turn on the tv. He said that he thought something really bad was going on. He’d heard about it over the radio and wanted to come see what they were saying on my tv. We tuned in just in time to see the second plane hit. It still feels like I can remember every second of that day. It is the day that my childhood officially ended and I realized that our great country was actually vulnerable.

I cried off and on for days after that and that led to me enrolling at UT as a religious studies major. I wanted to study and learn more about the religion these terrorists had hijacked, along with our planes, in hopes of finding a logical motive. What I found in those studies was a beautiful faith, not all that different to the one I was raised in. These people worshipped the same God, had the same prophets, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc. But these particular people that attacked us were terrorist, and were merely examples of extremists cherry picking verses that suited their needs, while ignoring the greater narrative. I’d also go on to learn that almost every religion had their own form of extremists in one form or another. In fact, I did a thesis of sorts on that very topic. Fortunately, not all have been quite as dangerous as the ones who ended my childhood. But there are still many faithful extremists in hiding (both at home and abroad) and it would be a mistake to ignore the possibility of another attack on our soil. When someone takes up the mantle of God and convinces themselves that they alone are doing God’s will, by upending the unbelievers, they can be hard to stop. These sorts of extremists do not believe in freedom OF religion, but rather freedom in their own religion, to the exclusion of all others.

As Lori Morris says, we must never forget! For those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

I am grateful to all of you whom enlisted and served to protect our great nation! While I indirectly felt that I was helping to find a path to understanding the motives of that horrible day, many of you had even greater courage and enlisted to protect us all. I can never express my gratitude for that sacrifice enough. Thank you!!!
