I am taking down Christmas decorations and rearranging some household items. A couple of months ago The Spiritual Friends Network https://www.facebook.com/groups/79123885609 gifted me a dish towel. It was much too pretty to use for dishes so I decided to frame it. It did not fit a standard frame size and custom was much too expensive. Then I had an epiphany. I had my husband cut a couple pieces of wood frame and I velcroed the cloth to the wood on both ends. Voilà! It makes a perfect wall hanging that is also a perfect match for a family quilt on my guest room bed (click on the image to see the quilt). This look may not be for everyone, but the moral of the story is make adjustments and enjoy what you already have. Hugs and Happy New Year. Janice

Are you a late bloomer? Harriet Doerr was an American novelist who achieved remarkable success later in life, becoming an inspiration for those who pursue their creative passions at any age. Born in 1910 in California, Doerr attended Stanford University but left to marry her husband, Albert Doerr, who worked as a mining engineer. The couple spent a significant part of their lives in Mexico, where the vibrant culture and landscape left a deep impression on her. After her husband's death, Doerr returned to Stanford in her 60s to complete her undergraduate degree. Her time in Mexico and the perspective she gained through years of reflection became central to her storytelling voice.

In 1984, at the age of 74, Doerr published her debut novel, Stones for Ibarra. The book drew on her experiences living in Mexico, telling the poignant story of an American couple who move to a rural Mexican village, facing cultural differences and personal challenges. Stones for Ibarra was met with critical acclaim, winning the American Book Award and establishing Doerr as a powerful new voice in American literature. Her prose was celebrated for its elegant simplicity, depth of emotion, and vivid depictions of Mexico’s beauty and hardship. Doerr’s nuanced writing conveyed the universal themes of love, loss, and the search for belonging, resonating with readers across generations.
