Artist Spotlight - CALI JEWLS


" With bands like Pacific's, Lost Stars, and now CALI JEWLS , Nashville is now home to a few pop groups. The band, originally from Chicago, has been active since 2019. In the previous two years, they have released a variety of tracks, including their first single "Posture," which has received over one million streams. Last year, they released "19 Crimes," one of the most underrated songs of the year, which has become a playlist favorite of ours. Now they're back with "Crazy," their first single of 2022. I was able to discuss the band's origins, as well as their new song "Crazy" and an open and honest dialogue about themselves and their music. "

Artist Spotlight - Weston & The Evergreen


" The wonderful thing about music, in my opinion, is that you never know how your song will affect someone else's life. It may be for only a few minutes during that song or, a week, or even a lifetime. This band crafted a tack that leaves a lasting impression, with the song "I Can't Help It." The song is featured on the band's current EP, "EVERGREEN". The EP's five tracks address Life, Love, and Heartbreak in a way that we can all understand. Whether a through, a mellow tone or a more energetic pop/rock sound used to express the story. With vibes of "The Band Camino" that can be found in songs like "Rearview Mirror" and "Wildfire." I was able to speak to Weston of the band, about the EP and what's next for the band."

Artist Spotlight - Aftrhours


" I've been a fan of AFTERHOURS since the start, and it's nice to watch Matt gain traction over the previous two years.

He's not only recognized for outstanding music in his stripped-down pop style and oftentimes referred to as a "sad boy" style, but he's also been nailing copies cover songs from classic pop punk songs like Blink 182's "All The Small Things" and Yellowcards' "Ocean Avenue" from modern covers of 1975 "Chocolate" and Maroon 5 "Payphone" over the previous two years.

Matt comes to mind when I think of an independent artist because, like so many others, he not only produces, promotes, and does everything in between by himself. If you follow closely enough in some ways, you can see him grow personally and professionally behind the music. As a fan, there were times when it felt like we'd be waiting forever for new music, but just like in life, you'll burn out and have to grind to obtain what you want. It speaks to me in a way, because the chicle saying goes, "You can have anything you want in life if you work hard enough." That, I believe, describes Matt's way of grinding it out, which we'll discuss later below.

His catalog of music is also fantastic; there are fun songs like "I'm Petty and House Parties" as well as more personal songs like "Perfect" and "High School" that shows a side of his personal life, in a very honest and relatable way.

As a guy who makes music for himself, that has big goals, It's great to see him with a refreshed outlook on his music and in the meantime we get amazing music with some fan favorite cover songs. "

The band has been around since 2019 and released its most recent EP "Feelings" this year, and has been a hidden gem like so many other independent bands. The group has mastered today's mainstream pop sounds while making them their own. From catchy songs like "Feelings" to enormous sound stage anthems like "Close" and "Quarter To Midnight," the album has something for everyone. We sat down with the band to learn more about how they got started and to discuss their most recent EP, "Feelings."

" There aren't many bands that can capture my attention as well as The Catalina.

I discovered them while listening to the fantastic Spotify discovery playlist tool. When their debut track, "Love Somebody," came on, I was immediately hooked. We decided to highlight this band after listening to a couple of their songs. Every song in their discography has something unique to offer.

We can't wait to hear the band's new approach in sound and what they have in store for 2022, which includes a new single called "All Over Again" and a new EP due out later this year. We talked with James about the band's start to the new music on the way"

Song Spotlight - WLDLFE - Close to You



Following the release of their 2021 EP Repaint My Mind, The Wldfle release another standout hit titled, "Close To You".

The song examines the positive and negative sides of a high school romance. The boy who is constantly chasing but never manages to catch the girl he desires. It's most likely appeared in corny films and television series. Nonetheless, it's a lot of fun. Jansen Hogan said -

"We were listening to "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus and decided we wanted to write a song that said something similar in our own way. Honestly, one of the few songs we've written that involves zero personal experience, but super happy with how it turned out!"

The band's co-singer Carson Hogan delivers another ear-pleasing solo, when asked about Carson's contributions

"I don't think it's something we intentionally do, but if it fits the song, it fits and Carson always kills them. Definitely love to be able to show some musicianship in our music in whatever way we can song to song."

The band's use of synths on the track, which can be heard throughout their catalog of songs, from Waterfalls to Anxious. The band has grown over time with an ever-expanding sound, and we're excited to hear what they have in store for us with a new EP set to drop in 2022.

A Story Told - American Made

Whatever perspective you have on this album, whether it's a deep dive listen or something you play in the car, it's an A+ record for the band and our album of the year. There's something on the record for everyone, whether you like mainstream music or a niche alternative genres. It's a lighthearted album with relatable themes that may become deeper with each additional listen. I highly recommend checking out the band and the record, and I hope you appreciate it as much as we do.

Best Alternative In 2021

The Wldlfe - Repaint My Mind

The band has mastered the sound of creating hit songs from practically every song on the album, which is a feat few bands, especially self-produced bands, can do. This EP has something for everyone, which is what makes it the greatest of the year because of the relatable themes and the fact that it hits for sound for everyone, no matter what they're into, this EP is one of the best of the year.
