MILITARY FORCES HAVE USED LISTENING POSTS FOR EARLY WARNING DETECTION AND PROTECTION AGAINST THEIR OPPOSITION FOR AS LONG AS CONFLICTS HAVE EXISTED. WHEN NIGHTTIME COMES, IN A HOSTILE MILITARY ENVIRONMENT, A UNIT
COMMANDER WILL DEPLOY A MANNED TEAM SOME DISTANCE BEYOND THE COMPANY'S FORTIFIED PERIMETER.

Listing post men continue to demonstrate with hand signals keeping the suspense of a listening post in action with listening post nighttime maneuvers.

THE DISTINCT PURPOSE HERE IS TO PROTECT THE MAIN DETACHMENT FROM SURPRISE ATTACKS. THE TEAM HAS SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO LISTEN FOR SOUNDS AND MOVEMENTS WHICH MAY POSE A THREAT OF IMMINENT HARM TO THEIR MILITARY UNIT. WHEN HOSTILITY IS DETECTED...

NARRATOR (V.O.) (CONT'D)..THE MANNED TEAM RETURNS TO THEIR BASE TO ALERT THE COMPANY. THE TEAM THEN USES A PASSWORD TO RETURN TO THE SAFETY OF THE UNIT'S FORTIFIED AREA.
