Hello, I am Marilyn Dale! 👋Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. Somewhere along the line I read, “whatever you loved to do in kindergarten is what yo

u’ll love to do all your life.” For me, it’s true, and I am both so lucky and blessed. I loved drawing and coloring. My favorite toys were my crayons.Today, as a fine artist, I am an award winning artist, a colorist, accomplished in oil, watercolor and pastel. I am inspired by landscapes and people, creating everything from traditional portraiture through abstractions. I’ve earned a Certificate in Painting from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and taken additional coursework there for more than twenty years. A working artist, graphic designer and art instructor, I’ve taught art to adults in the continuing education department of a small college and my local art league. I enjoy painting in oil, watercolor and pastel, from traditional portraiture through abstraction. In addition to artwork to hang in your home or office, I have designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works and had several works published. I enjoy working on commissions, where the pieces have personal significance to the owner. As the chair of the Art and Environment Ministry for my church for many years, I've designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works. Several of my pieces have been featured in publications by the North American Conference of Separated and Divorced Catholics, the Lutheran Church, University Hill Congregation and frequently by the Ministry and Liturgy Magazine. I am also the author of Energize Your Art Ministry.

Let’s talk about one of the biggest home decor trends right now—Moody Home Decor. It’s been trending for months, and with Winter here, it's on theme. ❄️

Moody decor doesn’t always mean dark (although it can be). It’s more about rich, luxurious colors like jewel tones, deep blacks, and opulent fabrics. There’s even a touch of Art Deco flair in some versions of this trend. ✨

"Where Are We Going?"

This small piece is a great example of how my art celebrates spontaneity and the beauty that emerges from controlled chaos. Using collage with a limited color palette, I layer and then intentionally disrupt, often scrubbing under running water to reveal the unexpected. This process of destruction and revelation brings about surprises that I cherish. Sometimes adding pop of color or drama can create moments of vibrant contrast and harmony. Each piece evolves organically, blending intention with the unpredictable to create compositions that reflect the dynamic energy of creation itself.

8" x 8" original painting - inks, paint and collage on 3/4" cradled wooden panel. This piece is framed to a dimension of 9" x 9" black wood floating frame. It was selected for a juried show with The National Association of Women Artists, summer small works in 2024.

"Fly Away"

Listening to the sounds of the morning birds, I responded with these marks. I so often forget to listen, it is remarkable how they chatter and repeat, seemingly calling to each other. Perhaps you've listened more than me...

I enjoyed making this series, Reverberations, waking early to catch the fleeting sounds of birds. It was amazing how repetitive they are, and at the same time how eternally different. They get louder, quieter, more relaxed, more imperative. I love what emerged in response. The simplicity is confounded by the complexity of the marks.

This piece is one of a series of sketches and paintings from the woods behind my house. The colors and light filtering, the tiny spring leaves, the reflective frozen ice after a storm....all of it so beautiful. This piece is watercolor and acrylic inks on a rice paper orginally. It will reproduce beautifully on watercolor paper. I tried so hard to capture the light and the reflection of the ice.
