Mr. Mike Curry is an author of the book series of 3 Pounds of Pressure and co-founder of Unseen Handz Media and Apparel in addition to being a business owner he is also the President of The Life After Prison (LAP) Non-Profit organization.

The Life After Prison focuses on five components: Employment, Healthcare, Housing, Family Care and Finance. LAP focus point is providing resources and support to inmates and those being released from incarceration transitioning back into society. We ultimalely serve as a liaison for anyone impacted by incarceration.

LAP also strive to raise public awareness surrounding incarceration and share recommendations to government officials on how to improve the reentry process.

Sending out condolences.

Morehouse mourns the loss of Hugh Douglas '25 and Christion Files Jr. '25, who were involved in a devastating car accident that resulted in their untimely passing on Monday afternoon. Hugh and Christion were not just friends but also roommates during their sophomore year, and their loss is deeply felt by all of us in the Morehouse family.

Hugh Douglas was an exceptional student who displayed immense dedication and promise in pursuing a business administration degree with a concentration in finance. He was a member of the Morehouse Business Association, an AltFinance Fellow, and a Goldman Sachs Fellow, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in his field. Over the summer, he interned at Ares Management Corporation in Los Angeles.

Christion Files Jr. was a remarkable young man who made his mark academically and in extracurricular activities. He was a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. His leadership qualities were evident through his role as the co-captain of the Morehouse Track & Field team, media chair for the Junior Class Council, and as a dedicated member of the Morehouse Business Association. Beyond these achievements, Christion was known for his photography and videography skills, which he used to create high-quality content for students, campus organizations, Morehouse Athletics, and the College's marketing office.

In the wake of this tragic loss, we want to remind everyone in our community that support is available for those who need it. Students who desire counseling can call Counseling Services at (470) 639-0231 to schedule an appointment. The Student Mental Health Center is located on the lower level of Brazeal House. Faculty and staff in need of counseling can contact the Cigna Behavior Hotline at (866) 912-3339 or the Life Assistance Program at (800) 538-3543. More information will be forthcoming regarding memorial services.

During these difficult times, we must come together as a community to remember and celebrate the lives of Hugh and Christion. They leave a legacy of excellence, passion, and dedication that will continue to inspire us all. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Hugh and Christion. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly challenging time.

Morehouse, let us carry both Hugh and Christion's torches and ensure their lights continue to shine through how we choose to live out our lives.

The God Father

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History would like to express its sadness upon hearing the passing of Clarence Avant, Music Executive, Businessman & Film Producer and known to many as the “Godfather of Black Music”. Mr. Avant was 92.

Mr. Avant’s legacy crosses many generations, from managing Sarah Vaughan to discovering Bill Withers & signing Detroit singer/songwriter the late Rodriguez (Searching for Sugar Man). He also co-promoted “Bad,” Michael Jackson’s first solo world tour, and he also served as Motown’s chairman of the board in the 1990’s.

Through the decades, Mr. Avant advised countless producers, executives and artists among them Quincy Jones, David Geffen, Jay-Z, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Whitney Houston, Antonio “L.A” Reid, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Lionel Richie, Jimmy Lovine, Irving Azoff, Reginald Hudlin, Sylvia Rhone, Queen Latifah, Jheryl Busby, Jon Platt, Sean Combs, Snoop Dogg and Jamie Fox.

Mr. Avant wore many titles, he was a teacher, mentor, advisor, and master communicator. He was able to bring his knowledge of civic engagement, social activism, and the power of giving back to the community on a broader scale.

In 2018, Mr. Avant operated his Interior Music Group and Avant Garde Music publishing companies until they were sold in 2018 to Universal Music Group.
In 2019, Mr. Avant was the subject of a Netflix Documentary “The Black Godfather” He was an active political fundraiser and in 2021 Mr. Avant received the Ahmet Ertegun Award from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just one of his many awards and accomplishments.

Mr. Avant’s leadership and legacy will be missed but his hard work and admiration will continue through the many he encouraged and supported throughout his long & successful career.

About Deonte Finch

He was born on April, 29 1985 and raised in Flint, MI. Graduated from Flint Northern HS. In Flint is where he started his entertainment carrier as a writer, rapper and producer in 2006. To pay the bills he worked multiple jobs and hustled at the same time. He worked with a lot of the artist in the city. He was in a group with KME (King Money Entertainment) with rap partner Payper Boy. He love to create music but started the journey as a gateway to do film. When He started doing music, the film industry was not prevalent in my area. With rappers such as Will Smith in mind, my goal was to make it in music and use that fame to gain access to the film industry. He recorded for years but didn’t create any hits for myself.

In 2010, He started traveling to Wisconsin where He took his first contract started his career in telecommunications. He took several travel telecom contracts in the years to come all over the country that kept me on the road and my entertainment dreams on hold. Being busy with my studio in storage, He decided to sell the studio. In 2015 he moved to California continued his telecom career in California until him & his wife decided to move to Las Vegas.

He started to seek out acting classes and opportunities to get into the film industry in Las Vegas. He took theater in middle school and visual communications in high school, but no training since then. In April 2022, He started and completed a six week acting class for beginners with Renee Peoples. Renee and Bobby they gave him his first opportunity to be a part of a project as a paid actor. This started his momentum. So far he had a small speaking role in four projects and have been an extra in one film. Vegas is perfect for me as most projects film on the weekend. He's look forward to getting busy enough to film full time.

Sisters Lisa and Tami Wilder, as many might say, “grew up on the side of a stage” with music running through their blood just as loudly as the sound through their ears. Daughters of Keith Wilder, the lead singer of the 70’s funk band Heatwave (Always and Forever, Boogie Nights, and more…).

The Wilder sisters seemed to follow a pre-destined path, with parallels of their father and uncle leading the legendary group into stardom. But, Twisted Royalty has a sound all of its own! British born and raised, these girls have developed a writing style and musical blend, backed by their uniquely talented band, which stands out among the sea of bands circling the industry.

Always having an organic passion for writing, Lisa and Tami make up an equally powerful writing team. A magical union of intricate vocal harmonies, melodic leads, funk, pop, acoustic soul and throw in a few jazz elements, just for good measure – and you have Twisted Royalty! Twisted Royalty was birthed from the Wilder sister’s journey in finding their musical path.

More than 10 years ago the sisters sang as part of an all-girl group and over time developed their musical style and dream into a duo with a band, ironically and organically falling into the same format that made their father and uncle famous. Now residing in Atlanta, GA, The girls have had a chance to perform all over the US, opening for Heatwave and other popular acts, and even spent some time overseas, perfecting their craft and getting even more musical influence at home in the UK.

The electric and biological connection between the girls unearths a soulfully unified sound between the two of them, while they each, individually, hold unique and equally beautiful vocal abilities – each different from the other.
