This was all part of the plan. (I never knew I would be in Meridian, Idaho raising money for libraries, but I knew I would use my voice as my career).

When I started college I thought I wanted to be a motivational speaker. I had already been getting praise for years about my ability to speak in public and entertain. I studied communications so I could develop my ability to speak.

That led me to volunteer to emcee campus events. A lot of students went to parties for fun in college. I went to the stage…and entertained at those parties.

That led to a career in radio. I spoke for a living. It was all part of the plan. (I didn’t know I would alone in a sound proof room being broadcast to tens of thousands of people, but I knew I would use my voice as my career).

Now I DJ people’s weddings. It was all part of the plan. (I had NO CLUE I would spend so much of my life wearing a suit celebrating with people I just met). But I knew I had a gift and I would use it as my career.

Who knows what’s next? But I just have a feeling whatever it is…there will be a mic and an audience.

Can you have an incredible wedding reception without a venue? Well…yes.

A venue helps in a lot of ways. You have ready access to power for your DJ, you have in-house, trusted vendors who know the lay of the land, not to mention decorations are mostly done for you…BUT!

If you have the energy to get creative and a medium sized yard then you are well on your way to saving thousands. These guys went above and beyond in their details and decorations.

Alright y’all, I hired a web designer out of Pakistan 😬 and this is what he came up with! We’re about 98% finished. Can I get your honest feedback on the site?

You’ll want to go through all the pages. I actually love the design 😍 I’m just trying to spot any spelling errors, pictures that are blurry or cropped weird, broken links etc.

My goal is to be the easiest DJ to book in Boise. So if something doesn’t make sense or we can simplify it somehow, please let me know!

Part of the magic of being a mobile DJ is bringing music to unconventional places…like a drive-in theater 🎭

This was Parma Motor-Vu’s first wedding so we had to get creative to run power for the lights and sound 🔊🔌

The vendors and venue did their best to prepare. We set up early. The lights were glowing and the speakers were bumpin’. Showtime! Ceremony was flawless. 👰‍♀️🤵Reception next.

Family and friends were seated at tables. I hyped ‘em up on the mic to prepare for a powerful grand entrance. The bride and groom pulled up in a white SUV with tinted windows. I cranked their song as they burst open the doors. The crowd went wild! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

At the height of the energy, the music cut out 😥 The sound system, tent lights and mobile bar were pulling too much power from a single circuit. I made a quick comment on the mic to ease the tension, power came back on, bride and groom recovered gracefully and we continued the party.

I knew if we were going to have a raging dance party later we were going to need to reduce the power usage or find another circuit 🪩

I played music at a lower volume. While people were distracted eating dinner, I slipped away to find the drive-in operator. We rewired the power so the lights were on one circuit and the sound was on another. None of the guests noticed anything was happening while we worked behind the scenes. The power to the sound system worked flawlessly the rest of the night 💡💡💡

When you hire a professional DJ you’re getting a problem solver🕵️‍♂️ Someone who can perceive potential problems and create quick solutions without drawing attention away from the party. No event is perfect, but when you find the right DJ you can feel confident knowing they have the experience to think on the fly and keep the show going!

So if you’re thinking about hiring a DJ for your wedding…just use Spotify and your phone! 😂 JK Love ya!

I visited with the bride several weeks before the wedding to make sure I had all their favorite songs. She specifically requested Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” as the last song.

On the night of the wedding everyone was on the dance floor and we were about 45 minutes before the end of the party. A clean-cut, gray haired gentleman walked up to the booth and asked me to play “Sweet Caroline.” I said, “Yes, I’ll play it, but the bride asked me to play it at the end.” He said, “No right now, you need to play it now. The groom wants you to play it now.”

I made eye contact with the groom and he gave me the thumbs up. So I dropped “Sweet Caroline” in the middle of the dance party and this was what happened next!

I’m completely booked with DJ gigs for September 🙌🏼😮 My first year really focusing on developing my skills as a Mobile DJ, I did 8 gigs. It felt like a whirlwind mainly because I was stepping into the wedding space and was overwhelmed by how much I needed to learn. I’ve grown a lot since then. Next MONTH I will be doing the same number of gigs as my first YEAR. 6 weddings + 2 corporate events.

I’m incredibly excited for the challenge. I’m probably not going to see my family next month, but it is all part of the process. In September I will prove to myself that I am capable of taking on a full-time amount of DJ gigs. If I can do it and still keep a full time job, then doing it without a full time job will be a breeze.

I’m terrified and excited. Failure is not an option. I will succeed. Life is on the brink of a massive change.

DJ Preston Lee Entertainment has been born. 🤩 This is an important moment for me.

I’ve been a DJ, radio host and entertainer for many years, but never thought I could make a full time living as a wedding and event DJ. 🎤🎧With the knowledge from great mentors, encouragement from my wife Megan and family I’m now laying the groundwork to launch into a new phase of life.

I’m not sure exactly when I’ll quit my day job. It could be a few months or a few years, but the stars are aligning and it is all starting to make sense ✨
