Downtown Parking Deck Demolition Update

Contractors are preparing for the demolition of the downtown parking deck. Over the next few weeks, crews will secure permits and relocate utility lines to ensure a smooth transition before demolition begins. Traffic control measures will be put in place to maintain public safety and prepare the site. Demolition is anticipated to start within the next month.

During the demolition phase of the project, traffic flow will be impacted to ensure safety:

• Pine Street from Tennessee Street to Mobile Street will be reduced to two lanes of traffic, with the north lane closed.

• Tennessee Street will be closed from Court Street to Pine Street, but access to the municipal parking lot will remain available.

• Mobile Street will be one-way westbound from Court Street to Pine Street.

• The alley between Court Street and Pine Street will remain open as demolition allows.

Mayor Andy Betterton stated, “Downtown Florence is evolving, and this project is a crucial step in shaping its future. We are dedicated to keeping downtown accessible and ensuring a positive long-term impact.”

District 2 Council Member Jackie Hendrix emphasized the importance of this project for downtown Florence, stating, “This demolition is important to maintaining our vibrant downtown area. While we understand this process may cause temporary inconveniences, the long-term benefits will be well worth it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this process.”

The City of Florence will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

Help support Tuscumbia! ❤️‍🩹

Kingpin’s in Downtown Tuscumbia is BANDing together with musicians and local businesses to raise money for the businesses that were directly affected by the tornado that hit Tuscumbia. They will have live music for three days and will be asking for a $10 donation minimum per day to help raise money. All donations will go directly to aid the businesses affected by the Tornado.

Friday, Feb 28th: 7pm-2am.
Saturday, Mar 1st: 12pm-2am
Sunday, Mar 2nd: 1pm-9pm

NWSCC Shoals campus will open according to regular schedule tomorrow.

The Avalon Ave railroad crossing will remain closed tomorrow through Feb 20.

UPDATE ON AVALON CROSSING

Norfolk Southern will need to close the crossing on Avalon Ave. from February 18th to 20th. They must replace both sides of the rail and resurface it. Please plan accordingly for your commute to and from school, work, or shopping.
