, which just launched a 50-city national tour, played a pop up benefit concert in the Shoals Thursday night 2/9.

The Grammy, CMA and ACM-winning band, which last April signed a worldwide recording agreement with newly-formed 8 Track Entertainment (which will be distributed by Warner Music Group’s ADA) was among numerous artists to perform Thursday at Flobama in downtown Florence to benefit the family of Mike Peden.

Peden, the long time stage crew member for the band Dixie Mafia, who also played Thursday night, died Jan. 9 at the age of 58.

Earlier this week, Shenandoah announced a new cross-country tour “The Revival Tour,” named for the group’s new single, “Revival,” which was also recently released via 8 Track Entertainment/Fame Records. The tour includes a show in Tuscumbia July 13.

Shenandoah formed in Muscle Shoals in 1985 and has charted 26 singles on the Billboard Hot Country charts since, including No. 1 hits “The Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South,” “Two Dozen Roses” (played here), “Next to You, Next to Me,” and “If Bubba Can Dance (I Can Too).”

In October 2022, ( producer, engineer, writer, and owner of all-inclusive residential studio ) published an article in the inaugural edition of Tuscumbia-based -- a new, high-end, biannual magazine product from local photographer/artist/celebrity and the intrepid, entrepreneurial, native son

In the article, Wright used the magazine’s first edition theme of “water” to explore the fleeting nature of hit songwriting. Wright feels one of the artists he’s been working with over the past year here in the Shoals -- -- has the talent and universal appeal so elusive in music making. Wright believes it’s just a matter of time before the artist (whose full name is Kenedi Griffis) makes her mark internationally.

Kenedi plays her next gig this coming Saturday, January 14 in Florence during the grand opening weekend of the city’s newest live music venue

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could one day say you saw Okay Kenedi play in a small club in Florence before she became a superstar???

This is a great chance to support live music in the Shoals. Owning and operating a music venue is a tough business and a great opening weekend could go a long way towards helping these musicians turned businesspeople succeed in their new venture.

Plus, these are some great bands. See you there!

It was a rare and wonderful experience to see and hear Shoals songwriting legend Donny Lowery play a few songs tonight (1/6)

Lowery’s hit songs include "Old Flame," a No. 1 single for the group Alabama that Lowery co-wrote in 1981. In the early 1990s, Lowery co-wrote two hit singles for the country music band Restless Heart titled "Why Does It Have to be Wrong or Right?" and "Say What's In Your Heart." Artists like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Reba McEntire, Hank Williams Jr., and the Judds have also recorded Lowery’s songs. Craig Morgan is among the new wave of country artists who've recorded his songs.

Lowery was among the rare successful songwriters to have an actual day job - he was a TVA fisheries biologist and is an ichthyologist. He moved to the area in 1976 when he took a job with TVA in Muscle Shoals.

Lowery still writes and played a few new songs for friends and fans tonight. In this video shot tonight, Lowery is playing a song he wrote with English singer John Waite called Bluebird Cafe. Waite was the lead vocalist for the successful rock bands The Babys and Bad English but this song appeared on Waite’s 6th solo studio album where Waite attempted to tone down his hard rock influences and regain the adult contemporary radio audience he once had.

Thank you for tonight, Donny!
