Our spotlight shines today on Tracye A. Matthews. A curator, historian and filmmaker, she is the Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at The University of Chicago. Matthews produced '63 Boycott, an Official Selection & Oscars shortlist qualifier in the Documentary Short Subject category. One of just 10 Doc Short films to qualify for the 2019 prestigious honor from The Academy, ‘63 BOYCOTT tells of the October 1963 boycott of Chicago public schools, when more than 250,000 students actively protested racial segregation. Matthews’ involvement in filmmaking includes work at the award-winning ROJA Productions, TV Gals Productions and Firelight Media in NYC, and Our Film Works, Exhibit Media, Juneteenth Productions and the Morten Group in Chicago. The University of Michigan graduate with a Master’s and Doctorate in American History is currently working on a semi-autobiographical documentary exploring adoption in African American communities.
