This agency needs fire support like never seen before. What can we do to help?? This is still a viable agency. We need to rally around them.

It is with deep regret that East Prospect Fire Company will cease to operate as a fire company at 1159PM on 12/31/2025. The department has provided 24/7 coverage for many years since it began in 1907. With fewer people willing to volunteer, rising costs, & decreased revenues we have been forced to make this very difficult decision. We wish to thank everyone who has faithfully supported us through the years. Arrangements are being put into place to ensure any calls received in East Prospect and the surrounding area will be handled by our mutual aid partners.

Edit: No additional information is available to be released at this time.

We are publishing our newest version of Sunday Shoutout - ABC Fire Style.

ADAMS COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT #2 (ACFD)

This small but mighty fire agency is located in Lind, Washington, has seen a total of 118 calls this year so far (2025), and they share some pretty amazing pics of our favorite type of firefighting: wildfires. WE had to throw in a few other areas of their expertise into the mix.

The town of Lind is in Adams County, which is home to about 600 residents, and the County's Fire District 2. The area inside of Lind is approximately 1.1 square miles. Nearby cities include Ritzville and Hatton. The ACFD2 responds to areas in Lind, Hatton, and the surrounding areas, which are around 500 square miles.

It is governed by three Board of Commissioners.

They are a full fire suppression agency with quite a high number of firefighters who are engaging in a lot of different specialities.

Here are some of them in action: (All photos and source credits are noted from ACFD2 unless otherwise stated.)

Today is , and here are some great Turkey Day cooking reminders:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As families across America prepare to gather for Thanksgiving, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is issuing an urgent reminder that the holiday season marks the most dangerous time of year for cooking-related fires and injuries.

Forty-five percent of annual residential fires are cooking-related, according to CPSC's report on Residential Fire and Loss Estimates. Cooking fires spike on Thanksgiving Day, with an average of 1,400 cooking fires. That’s more than three times the daily average of cooking fires.

“Every year, we see preventable fires and injuries caused by cooking accidents during the holidays,” said CPSC Acting Chairman Peter A. Feldman. “We’re urging everyone to stay focused when in the kitchen because a few minutes of attention can make the difference between a happy holiday and a heartbreaking one.”

Follow CPSC’s practical holiday cooking safety tips:

Never leave cooking food unattended. Stand by your pan!
Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the cooking area.

Keep flammable items, like oven mitts, wooden utensils, and food packaging, away from the stovetop.

Turn pot handles inward to prevent accidental spills and burns.
If a grease fire starts, smother the flames by sliding a lid over the pan and turning off the burner. Never use water on a grease fire.
Have a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

Turkey fryers create particular risks, causing fires, injuries, and property damage. Remember COOK when using one.

C: Carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

O: Overheat–Never overheat oil and use an oil with a high smoke point.

O: Overfill–Never overfill the oil in your turkey fryer.

K: Keep the fryer out of the garage, off the deck, and away from the house.

Finally, make sure you have a working smoke alarm on each level of your home, outside sleeping areas, and inside bedrooms.

Visit CPSC’s Holiday Safety Information Center for more holiday safety tips.

Seasonal Wildfire Outlook

California faces elevated fire danger through the end of 2025, with conditions expected to improve in early 2026.

Northern California: Fire potential is projected to be normal (one or fewer large fires per prediction area monthly). Whiplash weather patterns are expected - alternating cool-moist and warm-dry periods - with 2-3 offshore wind events per month. Lowland areas remain vulnerable to dry, gusty wind conditions until new herbaceous growth offsets standing dead vegetation.

Southern California: Above-normal large fire potential is forecast through December due to the combination of well-above-normal temperatures, well-below-normal precipitation, and normal-to-above-normal Santa Ana wind activity. A significant rainfall event expected in late December or early January should reduce fire threat to near-normal levels starting in January.

As of early October, 2025, 37% of California is experiencing drought with an additional 34% abnormally dry. A developing La Niña pattern is expected to bring below-average precipitation and above-average temperatures through May 2026.

2025 Seasonal Fire Facts
. 7,439 wildfires . 522,289 acres burned. 31 fatalities. 16,479 structures destroyed

Though there were lesser number of wildfires, they were much more deadlier and destructive that last year. We are hoping for a lesser impact on the State of California, whom we have a lot of fire friends there.

Thank you for the amazing work you all have put in this year and in the past. You have overcome many challenges and extreme fire conditions.

2024 Season Fire Facts
. 8,110 wildfires . 1,077,711 acres burned. 1 fatality. 2,481 structures destroyed

Labor Mtn Fire

MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2025 FIRE UPDATE
@1130 PT

The LABOR MOUNTAIN FIRE is located about 10 miles north of Cle Elum (Kittitas County), Washington, in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

The fire ignited on September 1, 2025, by lightning.

Fire behavior has been reduced significantly. Fire Officials stated that due to the prolonged wetting, the fuels would have to dry out but they don't see this happening.

This fire along with its counterpart Lower Sugarloaf Fire received significant rain over the weekend up to 1/2 inch falling over the fire area.

There are still 495 total personnel along with 5 crews, 5 engines, 2 helos and 4 heavy equipment remain assigned to this incident under the management of the NW Team 3, a CIMT.

Fire Officials stated 42,967 acres of timber and brush have been burned. There is a 54% containment status as of today's date.

Two homes have been reported as lost. Despite this, residents can see all evacuation orders & warnings lifted.

Closures and Safety remain in effect: Fire closures remain in place for both the WA DNR’s Teanaway Community Forest and the U.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest due to the Labor Mountain Fire. These temporary closures are needed to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public. Fire crews are still actively working in the area, and many fire-related environmental hazards remain. Please check the status of area closures before planning to visit lands adjacent to the fire.

Cost to date: 61.5 Million Dollars.
