MONTGOMERY COUNTY RESIDENTS - The Montgomery County Fiscal Court is partnering with Rumpke Waste & Recycling to offer ALL county residents a free trash disposal day for non-hazardous household waste on Saturday July 8, 2023 from 8AM - 2PM. The event will take place at the Montgomery County Landfill. Residents must provide proof of residency prior to disposal. MCS Preschool and Gateway Head Start will hold a joint registration for students on Friday, April 21, and Friday, May 19 at the Clay Center. All children must be screened to begin the eligibility process. This will include hearing, vision, and developmental screenings. Screenings take place at registration and will last approximately one hour. **DRUG ARREST**
Deputies and Detectives of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested the following subject after an investigation lead the the discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine.

Arrested:

Harley L. Dotson (29)
Mt.Sterling, Ky

Charges:
(1) TRAFF IN CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST OFFENSE (Methamphetamine)

Dotson was lodged in the MCRJ.

Mrs. Holly Lawson has been named the acting principal at Montgomery County High School. Mrs. Lawson’s commitment to Montgomery County Schools and expertise in academics is well evidenced by her experience at Montgomery County High School as a teacher, curriculum coach, and assistant principal. The high school students and staff have gotten off to a wonderful start this school year and Mrs. Lawson will continue this forward momentum.

Brandon Watkins, who had been serving as the interim principal since the beginning of the school year, recently accepted a new position in a different district.

The City of Mount Sterling welcomes our newest addition to the Mt Sterling Police Department! Police Dog KANE, a four-year-old German Shepherd, was on duty at the Police Department today. Officer Casey Browning, a three-year veteran of the MSPD, will be the K9 handler and partner. Welcome to our team KANE!

Montgomery County is currently under State Burning Restrictions. A complete burn ban is not in place at this time. Conditions will continue to be monitored and burn restrictions will be updated as needed. If you intend to burn we ask that you complete a burn permit prior to doing so. These can be completed at any of our manned stations or by calling the office. 498-1318

STREET CLOSURE NOTICE - Some downtown streets are closed for the October Court Day Festival in Mt. Sterling, KY on October 14-17, 2022. Barricades will be placed at all entry points into the festival area to restrict vehicle traffic daily from 9:30AM to 6:30PM.

Parking will be available in designated parking spaces along streets that are not closed for the event. Multiple property owners will also provide opportunities for parking.

Handicap parking will be available in the Courthouse square (Broadway and Court Streets.)

All streets will be back open by Monday (10/17/22) evening. We ask that all thru vehicle traffic avoid the downtown area on Monday evening while clean-up operations are in progress.
